Hi DSers,
I am interested in couples ballroom dance lessons. A friend and a couple-friend of mine would like to take lessons together. Know of anywhere good? I have already checked out the Dance Complex and it isn't exactly what I am looking for.

We would go private if we have to - but we need to keep the cost down.
Thoughts?

i know it's not in davis, but the boston center for adult ed has classes in their ballroom in back bay. i've not taken the classes, but have been in the ballroom which is soooo purty! iirc, the ballroom dance classes end with a party.

otherwise, check out the other local adult ed places, as well as the participatory dance section of the phoenix for more ideas.

I took the Cambridge Continuing Ed class and I would not recommend it. It was very crowded and we didn't feel we got a lot of attention. We felt like we were teaching ourselves. We haven't taken any other classes, unfortunately, so I don't have recommendations.

for cheap but perhaps not terribly in-depth...

This is pretty cheap, and you can come to individual classes or sign up for a month-long series at a small discount. It's a large group class, and you can stay with your own partner, or, as they recommend, rotate partners through the lesson.

Elizabeth Miller offers private lessons as well as has a class schedule in different parts of the Boston Metro area. She lives (and teaches privates) in Somerville. http://www.youwanttodance.com/

She's an excellent teacher.

Swingstep in Medford has great studios, and a good calendar of lessons, participatory 'dances' and some performances, but tend to be pricey. Arlington High's adult ed program has a good ballroom dance program, and it's not hard to get to (straight up Mass Ave by bus, or the Somerville ave bus - sorry I still know many routes by name, not number! - to Arlington Center). I do know someone who took lessons in Watertown, don't know if it's the same ones mentioned above, but I know they were happy with them. Have fun!

I'll second MIT. During the summer the ballroom club has a lesson series, with a different dance every week.
