Comcast rates

I was interested to note when I got the new rate sheet from Comcast last month that the cable internet rate in Somerville went down from $45.95 to $42.95. (That's assuming a $15 discount for also having Cable TV or Digital Phone through them.) I called to verify and the Comcast person of the minute said yes indeed, they shuffled the rates as of 1/1/04 and some areas - such as mine - went down.

Later, bill received for January: $45.95 for cable. Called again, and the new person of the minute said he knew of no rate change, but if I had a rate sheet that said otherwise, I should fax it to them and they'd adjust my account.

So... I thought there might be some Comcast internet folks here who'd be interested to know that at least the marketing folks at Comcast think there's a new rate for Somerville, and if you send the billing department Comcast's own rate sheet, you may actually see it!

Waitaminute... the discount for multiple services still applies? They got rid of that for me.

I just called and found out why. You now only get the multi-service discounts if you have at least the "digital silver" bundle, and AT&T long distance/regional calling. So that's a $10 price hike for me.

I don't have any service with AT&T. My rate sheet for Somerville as of 1/1/04 says one gets a multi-service discount on Cable Internet of you also get either Basic Cable or Digital Phone.

The Digital Phone part is new, I think. We don't have a TV, we were just paying $11 or whatever for Cable TV so we could get the $15 discount. (I'm guessing they get more ad revenue if they can claim more TV subscribers.) Getting rid of the cable TV bill, plus a $5 or so multi-service discount on the Digital Phone service, is a nice win. (I explicitly confirmed that both discounts apply.)
