A very strong smell of smoke just came through my windows.  I went outside to find quite a bit of smoke moving up Summer St, looked like it could be coming from either Davis or Porter Sq.  A few of my neighbors also came out because they could smell smoke too.  I live on Summer St and I have not heard any sirens.  Anyone got a clue as to where the smoke is coming from??

_Lots_ of sirens coming from up Highland. Sounded like at least three different set of emergency responders, maybe four, heading towards some major incident. I'm located at 104 Albion, and haven't heard a commotion like this since I moved in (from closer to Davis) four months ago.

My guess was a major fire, like big apartment complex, Somerville Hospital, etc. Would love to know WTF is up.

It's in the Magoun Square area. There are at least two fire trucks there, and the fire is under control now.

The news ticker on this site is showing a fire in Somerville:

yikes, that's way too close to my house for comfort! but the fire trucks are leaving now so I guess it's under control.

Though the mystery has been solved, I just wanted to share this article (http://news.bostonherald.com/localRegional/view.bg?articleid=1010502) from the Herald about the fire. Joe Lynch, who running for alderman, ran to the Herald to use the issue of illegally parked cars blocking access to the fire department as a campaign issue.

Joe Lynch is a bright and knowledgeable guy, a lot more on-the-ball than the incumbent he is running against.

But I have no idea whether he's right about this issue, since I rarely walk or ride down those streets.

I don't know much about Joe Lynch (obviously), but I thought that the way that the article was written was much more about his wanting to campaign than actual reporting on the fires. That could be a problem of the Herald or one of him calling to crow about this. However, if a fire truck cannot make it down the street, that's a HUGE problem...
