Does anyone know why there has been a helicopter hovering over Porter/Davis for the last few hours?

Weird. I have a friend in New Jersey with the day off today, and she just posted there's a helicopter flying over her street...

You beat me to it. They were black helicopters, right?

Only if they were the Feds. They could be a weed delivery service with a great response time.

I figured that the drug smugglers and dealers used small prop planes and mini-parachutes. I think that I saw an air strip around here somewhere... or was that just the bike path?

S'okay. It really was the perfect combination of timing and reflexes. A moment or two of hesitation and I would have missed it. :)

There's a 3 alarm fire on Kidder Ave. If there's any other info that someone finds out, I'd like to know. We live right near there!

Sorry, that is my fault. I have forgotten how to land, so I have to hover. Hopefully I will remember before I run out of fuel!

Yeah, otherwise you could be stuck up there for days.

the stick to the left of your seat goes downward, while you adjust the rudder pedals to keep from spinning. Focusing on an object on the horizon helps.

Or you could just wait to run out of fuel and learn the meaning of the word "autogyro".

HTH.

(no, I don't have a helicopter rating, just played too much MS Flight Simulator)

I walked past the fire site an hour ago. It was on Pearson, close to Boston Av. A standard two-family, with the third floor burned completely away and the first and second floors looking entirely blackened. No damage to the neighboring houses.

The entire house was covered with icicles.

A photographer leaving the scene told me that there were no injuries.

Thanks for posting that. It's nice to know that no one was hurt. And it's also nice to know that none of my friends are newly homeless.

That's good to know that no one was hurt.

I'm still confused about the helicopter, though.

Thanks for letting us know. Yikes.

Was it close enough to have an effect on your place?

...actually, I wouldn't have known about it if I hadn't read this. Other end of the street, and I shivered my way right home without looking around.

No, wait, that's not true. We were having problems with our water earlier today. I wonder if there was some sort of damage to the local water system?

If it was a fire, they may have been using hoses. That might have affected the water pressure.

mine too! i just got home about 1/2 hour ago from New York. when I left yesterday, the most info I had was the post on here that it was on Kidder. when I walked home tonight from Davis, I was on the phone with my mom, telling her about it, and I saw all this ice at the corner of Pearson and Kidder so I looked around, but didn't see anything...it must be further up from my place. I'm tempted to go brave the cold and see what it looks like.

The smoke from the fire created a haze across the whole area, including Cedar Street. My kithcen smelled like a house fire.
