In what area of crazy town is this a good idea? I mean, I know it seems like the logical extension of your constant community spamming about Skybar events, but really...

Wow, the snark-fest this triggered (http://community.livejournal.com/b0st0n/5281880.html) over on [livejournal.com profile] b0st0n is wonderful! And it's even marginally relevant to Boston, unlike Davis Square.

Please tell me what's wonderful about all that piss-poor behavior. If you think that low level of insulting is deserved in this situation, you have problems.

Did you see where she named the final Skybar show "Fuck the Fire Department", (http://www.thenoiseboard.com/index.php?showtopic=168612) and then went on to blame the fire department for closing Skybar, instead of the owner who wouldn't install $30,000 of sprinklers to bring the place up to code?
Sure, maybe it's in bad taste. But, honey, controversy sells, and it gets people's attention. No publicity is bad publicity. I'm not exactly in the closet about a (strong dislike for the govt., society, and how it's taking away our enjoyment of life and our freedoms, etc). I'm entitled my opinion, just like you are entitled to yours.

I'm not against firefighters...just against bullshit that is costing me and all my staff our jobs. Not cool. Cops, politicians, and city officials should just mind their own biz and let rock and roll remain free and unfettered. Because some moronic hair band shot off pyrotechnics in a nightclub 3-5 years ago, my ass is going to out of work and another great venue supporting non-mainstream genre bands is eradicated.

She'd rather take the risk that patrons die in a fire, than have to find another job. That, to me, is "piss-poor behavior" and deserves a suitable response.

Against my better judgment, I will play devil's advocate.

I'm all for people not dying in a horrible and preventable fire, but it's a leap of faith to believe that the code violations in the skybar are so dire that you place yourself in danger simply by going there. Fire code around Boston has always been fairly pedantic, post Coconut Grove. I'm sure alot of us have spent time enclosed in hellish boxes of potential death in the name of entertainment without getting disgruntled. Then again I don't know for sure, were the walls of the skybar lined with explosive foam or something like that? Or was he just not prepared to pump 100 gallons of water per minute into the club in case the alarm went off?

I also can't really blame the skybar for balking at the cost of upgrading something they won't get a return on. Running a club is charity work, and people do it because they feel the need. If he feels his calling is to dig deeper in to the Chinese take out business, so be it.

And if the place has really been on the market for a couple of years, either some people have been putting alot of time into building up the club have been strung along or they shouldn't be surprised that it will be coming to an end. Showbiz was built by arrogant, naive, idealistic people. On the other hand its easy to be a consumer of scenes who expresses disappointment that it's not up to par. There are not many people who can deal with being a promoter in this town, because its a very hostile environment if you're not working for, say, oh I don't want to name names but his initials used to be D on "I picked up Led Zeppelin at Logan Airport" Law.

The responses in some of the other threads kind of remind me 4 years ago "well OF COURSE Saddam Hussein has weapons of mass destruction ya dumb bitches, duhhhh." There's just no need to recall 9/11, the holocaust, Christ dying on the cross for your sins, whatever.

What does the fire department have to do with her hairstyle, sex appeal, deservingness of whether or not someone would piss on her face if it was on fire, taste in music, gothness, and ability to defend herself in a snark war, and her (and her boyfriend's) assumed difficulty paying rent. Some of those comments just hurt my head. Most of them are not on topic and they reflect some really eager inclinations to attack someone below the belt instead of what could have been a helpful or neutral critique/discussion. Or, better yet! Maybe we can ignore something that strikes us wrong in these communities! Especially when it's personal. If someone really thinks it's out of place, there are moderators.

Yeah its wonderful. Hahaha I just love snark. Lets all try to hurt peoples feelings while giving ourselves a false sense of superiority. If you like this sort of thing, you should try kicking beggars when they reach out for a helping hand. Yeah, I know, you can't do it from the comfort of your computer and all, but it takes me back to BB gun days...
