Has anyone ever parked in the Shaw's parking lot when they're jumping on the T in Porter Square? I stupidly drove into work today, not thinking about how I'm going out straight from here, and unfortunately don't have a Somerville parking permit, or I'd just park over on a side street.

i've done it, but i know that they do keep track of who parks there & for how long the car is there.

do you know where ATA cycle is, next to barefoot books, up mass ave (towards harvard square) a bit? if you turn left onto the side street next to barefoot books, there are like, 4 parking spots that are free & clear - no parking permit needed, and no meters. :)

many of the side streets do not require permits. drive around the area off of Willow and Morrison and you should find something easily.

The Shaw's lot people track how long your car's there. While you can get lucky, it's not for long -- I've had friends get ticketed and even towed after a few hours. Two hours is the enforced max, three if you have the Healthworks permit in your window. Hope you find something else!

yeah... but there are spots to be had in the vicinity that dont require a permit... and it's late enough that if you park on the street, you only need to put in an hour's worth of quarters, because the meters stop at 8pm. i wouldn't risk parking in the shaw's lot, but that's just me. i hate tickets.

if you have a friend in the area, i'm sure they would lend you a visitor parking pass, which is a very nice little helper in a situation like yours.

Don't do this. You will be towed.

I've seen people do it several times with no problem.

Park on Elm Street near shaws. They don't seem to ticket or tow anybody.

Now if they could just apply that kind of vigilance to SUVs in the "compact" spots...
