Hi everyone--

This isn't a post about looking for an apartment, I just wanted some suggestions on neighborhoods.
I'm a Florida native who is planning a move to Boston at the beginning of November. I came to Boston last October, and I fell in love with Davis square- and immediately decided that's the area I wanted to live in. However, in my obsessive searching for apartments, I've noticed that there are far more availabilities in the Allston/Brighton area. I did pass through there on my visit, but I only got off the T in a couple of spots- so I didn't really explore.
So, the real question I am posing- to you that live in and love Davis square; is there any other area that is comparable to Davis-- but still near a T stop?
On a completely other note, can anyone tell me if Cambridge School of Culinary Arts is as cool as it seems to be online?
Thank you so much!

The original poster is 28 years old according to his/her profile. That's still young enough to 'enjoy' Allston, but not everyone that age wants to be in a noisy college area.

Yeah, no. I moved into Allston at nearly 25, and I was way too fucking old for that shithole.

I became "too old" for Allston/Brighton at 23 and fled to the red line.

OK then, Allston is not for you. Davis Square has a great movie theatre, as does Coolidge Corner. A movie theatre is the one thing that Jamaica Plain is really missing.

Well, it sounds like Davis is the perfect place for you! Restaurants, movies, cafes, GLBT community, arts festivals, zombie marches (you'll find out!), ice cream, parks...we have it all.

C'mon, be one of us! :-D

Click on this tag: events. Scroll down and you'll find the zombie march. In the meantime you may want to review the other cool stuff that has happened in our neighborhood.

Zombie March...BRRRRAINS!

Each year for the past few years, zombies of every description have gathered in Davis to march lurch to Harvard Square. It's the mostest awesomest fun you can have when you're undead!

Another one is planned for 2008!

"Some people say that Spring Hill is within walking distance, but I'd dispute that in the wintertime."

Depends on the individual I guess. Spring Hill is walking distance to Davis, Porter, and Union Squares and is cheaper than Davis. (I walk or bike to Davis Sq. from Spring Hill nearly every day on the Community Path. It's true that on a bad day one might prefer to take the 88 bus to get to the Red Line.)
