The Cambridge Police Department will hold a community meeting on Friday evening, 6-8 pm, at the Peabody School, 70 Rindge Avenue. The meeting will discuss recent shootings and other crimes in the North Cambridge neighborhood. This may interest Davis-area folk who live in Cambridge, especially on the other side of Mass. Ave.

Here's the e-mail I got from Craig Kelley, via the Porter Square Neighbors mailing list:

Attached is a flier for a CPD community meeting this Friday evening (14 September), 6-8 PM, at the Peabody School auditorium at 70 Rindge Ave. I hope we can get a good turnout, as the more involved the public is, the more supportive we may find the City on these issues. You can also email the Council at Council@Cambridgema.gov, the City Manager at Rhealy@Cambridgema.gov and the CPD at NorthCambridge@cambridgepolice.org to share your thoughts.

Most of you know that there have been a few shootings in North Cambridge in the past couple of weeks (it doesn't appear that anyone got shot), but there have also been assaults and at least one high-speed car chase that wound up with an arrest in a Pemberton Street backyard.

North Cambridge is still a very safe place, statistically, but there is some understandable angst about recent crime, as well as unanswered questions about past crime such as the shooting at Parnell's a few months ago or the Pemberton Street shooting around the same time.

The Police will be able to tell us some things, will not be able to tell us other things and certainly won't have answers to all of our questions. Nonetheless, this is an opportunity to meet with our Neighborhood Sergeant to discuss crime and safety concerns and to discuss ways we may all better serve our community.

Representatives from the North Cambridge Crime Task Force will also be there to listen to resident concerns and explore ways they can work in partnership with the Cambridge Police Department to address concerns.

For more information, please call Neighborhood Coordinator Holly Bernier at 349-6009.

I hope to see many of you there. Any questions or comments, please let me know.
