Anybody know a cheap place to get a watch battery replaced in Davis? I used to go to a inexpensive jeweler in the Sq. till he closed a few years ago. Last time I got it done in Harvard Sq. at a watch store and they charged me like $30 ....which is probably nearly 1/2 the value of the actual watch at this point! Thanks in advance.

I go to Medford Square. There's a jeweler there (Roland's, maybe?) who'll do it for, like, $5

Which watch store did you go to in Harvard Sq? I went to the one on Church St, next to the CD store, last year and it was less than $10.

I also like the watch shop on Church Street in Harvard Square.

It can be hard to predict the price of a battery replacement, though, because it varies so much from watch to watch. It depends on the price of the battery itself, how hard it is to access it, and so on.

Also, the question 'how much would it cost to replace the battery in this watch?' is useful to ask BEFORE having them do it.

I went to a place in Porter Sq., but I can't remember the name. It was a basement shop, somewhere between the Porter Sq. parking lot and Sugar and Spice. $10.

CVS usually has them.

But then you have to install it yourself; I'd rather pay someone else to do that.

Watch Shop at Porter Square, 1925 Mass. Ave. basement.

Davis Square used to have two jewelers, but both went out of business in the last few years. One is now Julie's Nails, the other D-squared.

Which is why people get charged $20 to put in a battery they can buy at Radioshack for $3.

Last time I got my battery changed at the Watch Shop at Porter, and it was $5. Totally worth that INSANE $2 markup.
