If I understand correctly, BYO is illegal everywhere in Cambridge; places in Boston can allow it but not if they otherwise serve alcohol; restaurants in Somerville allow BYO.
Many restaurants in Arlington are BYOB, because alcohol sales are illegal in Arlington (but not possession or consumption). Do a Google or Yelp search for restaurants in Arlington, then call ahead and ask if if you can bring your bottle. Lots and lots of very yummy places to eat right in Arlington Center.
That's a relatively recent change. Arlington has issued a few restaurant wine/beer licenses, in an attempt to attract better restaurants to the town. But there's still no liquor stores.
Arlington has had beer and wine restaurants (and a small number of full-liquor) licenses for a number of years now. A great boom in ethnic restaurants resulted after Arlington started issuing these.
Arlington has recently approved three package stores as well, but only for beer and wine, not other liquor. Belmont has also approved beer and wine licenses for restaurants, but with much less success than Arlington.
La Fiorentina in Woburn (sometimes known as la Stanza Diva Fiorentina) has incredible Italian food and no liquor license, so they encourage people to go around the corner to the liquor store to get a bottle of wine.
Belmont has also issued a few restaurant/beer licenses, for the same reason. But it's been a while since I went out to eat in Belmont, so I don't know which restaurants in Belmont serve alcohol.
