Alfresco, a sit-down restaurant featuring 'Italian and Mediterranean Cuisine', has opened at 382 Highland Ave. (corner of Highland and Cutter). This is the space formerly occupied by Alex Pizza, Out of the Blue, Dolly's, and Kay & Chips.

(Edit 11/11/07) Alfresco is owned by the same person who used to own Savannah Grill on Elm Street.

Yeah I live up the street, saw it over the weekend. Cheap chicken parm sandwiches, wonder if it's any good?

maybe they will survive on the cupcake traffic (which I noticed has a help wanted sign in the window).

Because what Davis Square really needs is another brand new Italian restaurant.

Not complaining, mind you, just very amused. I like Italian. This is what, the third to open in a year? And they're already competing with Mike's and Antonia's.

And Amelia's in Teele (which is still my preferred one, though admittedly I haven't tried Sagra yet).

Calling Mike's an Italian restaurant is like calling McDonald's a steakhouse.

I was trying to compensate for my biases. No real disagreement. :}

Oh man, a meatball burrito would RULE.

Holy crap. I would eat this every day until I died (which, I'm sure if I ate this every day, wouldn't be too long off).

Neat! It's nice to see that space getting used. Thanks for the update :)

I ate here tonight. On first impression, seems to be better than La Spina (not hard), possibly up there with Sagra -- but nowhere near as good as Antonia's. However, at their lower price point, could be a good deal.

I was hoping this would be something like Cinderella's (or, even more optimistically, Dino's!), but no dice. It's definitely a full-on sit-down restaurant type place.

Does it have outdoor seating? Naming it that without seems...perverse. And not in a fun way.

great dinner

i stopped by this place tonight with a friend. he ordered fettucine alfredo and i had the gnocchi in a creamy tomato basil sauce.

the servers were very attentive and friendly, and my gnocchi was great -- particularly the sauce! the fettucine needed more sauce, but was pretty tasty, as well.

not much else to report -- but definitely a very good option for local italian grub.
