any good recipes for under-ripe mattress ?

I had to buy a Real Mattress following back surgery.  it got about 3 months of nice, respectful use before it wasn't needed any longer (prefer the futon) and was relegated to the attic.  now i want space in the attic more than i want a nearly-new mattress.  goodwill, salvation army, and the boys-girls club all told me on the phone that they don't take them.  the idea of throwing it out is breaking my  hippy-dippy, recycle-reuse heart.

anyone got any other ideas ?  anyone want it ??  it's an "olympic queen" - 66" × 80".   no box-spring, no frame.  located in magoun sq.

Yeah, they're both offered and requested on freecycle all the time. I got my box spring that way (had a mattress, wanted to give the bed more "presence," i.e. height). Many people are ignorant, trusting, and/or cheap enough not to let the bedbug threat stop them. In my case, it was trusing and cheap!
