Tufts University Art Gallery is having a reception for the opening of the December MFA Thesis Exhibition and it's open to the public.
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 5:30-8:30 pm
I've been to several of these and they are much better than most gallery events because:
1) They have free booze (wine, beer + sodas)
2) The food has been really good (shrimp is pretty common at the ones I've been to)
3) A room full of young, energetic artsy students pounding down the brews along with plenty of grown ups to provide some balance
4) No one makes you feel inferior for not knowing much about the art
It's an interesting way to get a little culture and the exhibits can be pretty entriguing. Here's a link to the artists who will be exhibiting:

The reception is at the Aidekman Arts Center, which they say is in Medford, but those of us in the know understand it's actually on the Somerville side of the campus (it's right across from the entrance to the football field).
Here's something nice I discovered about most of the receptions there...don't worry about showing up late. They usually bring out a second wave of eats at about 7 pm. Occasionally, they run out of beer, but that only happened once (think the last reception of the year when more students are over 21) . Tipping the servers really goes far, because students don't seem to grasp the concept at an event like this.
You can also join their mailing list to get advance notices of the receptions --- the gallery does 2 to 4 a year. I don't see anything on the website to sign up, but I believe you will be able to sign up at the event.
Cheers.
