So I dumped my landline and don't miss it except that now I won't get those robo calls alerting me to the often impetuous decisions to declare a snow emergency. Anyone know if it is possible to register a cell phone to get those msgs? I got whacked with a snow emergency tow last year and it was not as much fun as getting a root canal- so like, what's the point...

Happy first snow!

I don't know about cell phones, but you can sign up for email alerts if you haven't already:

I don't see why not. Many Somervillains have gone cell-only and have no landline. City Hall should be prepared to deal.

I don't see why it would matter what kind of phone it is. A phone number is a phone number.

from the website: http://www.somervillema.gov/NewsDetail.cfm?instance_id=1130

Residents can sign up for Connect CTY by calling the city’s 311 constituent service center, or by visiting the city’s website at www.somervillema.gov. The website also features a downloadable copy of the new snow procedures brochure. “You can get snow alerts by phone or by email, and you can receive them on your work or cell phone as well as your home phone – but you have to sign up in order to give us your preferences.”

Hell, why ask us? Just call them tomorrow and ask directly. I myself find it unlikely that it matters as long as it's a valid phone number, unless those calls somehow run afoul of anti-telemarketing laws, which I sincerely doubt.
