I was wondering if there is anyone I can complain to about my neighbor.

I totally understand right now there is a ton of ice everywhere. However my neighbor is a lazy asshole. On Thursday he never shoveled. Friday never shoveled. Saturday never shoveled. Sunday came and went...while my entire road was shoveling he was not. Obviously it all froze. Now his entire driveway is a ice skating rink and he still has not salted anything. Not my problem. However, since Sunday afternoon he has been trying to get in and out of his driveway for hours. During the day I dont mind so much, I just laugh. Yesterday morning..before the sun was even out he was there racing the engine, spinning his tires for over a half an hour. This morning...the same exact issue/noise.

I cant handle the noise so early. I think Im also bothered because he brought this on himself. My other neighbor is mad as well but neither of us feel comfortable telling him. Any ideas? Do I just hope all the ice melts soon?

Well, if you just wanted to solve the noise-while-spending-forever-trying-to-get-into-the-driveway problem, you could play sand-fairy and pour sand and melt-the-ice stuff all over his driveway while he's not looking.

But I can certainly understand why you wouldn't want to bother to go through the trouble, when he hasn't.

well, if he also didn't shovel the sidewalk in front of his house, you can call the city and report him. they may issue a ticket, as residents/owners are required to clear their sidewalks.

We must live near each other.

I also woke this morning to the sound of endlessly spinning wheels.

It's supposed to be 39 tomorrow, if you can handle one more morning of same.

If it's excessive noise before 7 or after 10, call the Somerville Police and file a noise complaint.

If this is a permanent or long-term neighbor, your best solution is going to be a face to face chat.

Seriously, before you step it up to complaining to anybody, talk to him and suggest sand or kitty litter or something.

Sand is way better than kitty litter. Even non-clumping kitty litter, if it doesn't work right away, can turn into a clay slick.

...if you can even get to his door without falling on the ice, of course. (Hello, lawsuit!)

Unfortunately, stupidity is not yet illegal.

I have the same problem with a neighbor on my street. During the past several days while attempting to navigate his Cold-War era land yacht he has thoughtfully waked me with the sound of his spinning tires.

Love your icon, jamie, by the way.

Sounds like karma may catch up to him pretty quick in the form of a mechanics bill if he's racing his engine and spinning his tires for hours.

Somerville Land Line: 311
Any other phone: 617-666-3311

They'll send inspectional services out and give him a ticket. Of course, that only works if you don't mind starting a neighbor-war.

I was going to post exactly the same thing about my neighbor.

Yeah, I was wondering about un-iced sidewalks myself.

(Looking at you, 254 Willow Ave......)

I've always wondered what would happen if someone just called in to speakout with a list of addresses.
