There has been some talk in this community about the 48-hour parking rule. Can someone explain the rationale behind this law? I have a car, but I take the "T" or ride my bike to work, so it doesn't make sense to me to have to move my car for no reason. I understand the need to move my car for street-sweeping, but this 48-hour thing doesn't seem to have a basis.

This administration, like its predecessors, has been a staunch advocate of both the Green Line Extension (including the spur to Union Square) and an Assembly Square stop on the Orange Line. We'd also like to see the restoration of a commuter rail stop, perhaps in Union Square. It's especially aggravating that the Orange Line and two commuter rail lines already pass through or along Somerville without stopping.

Fortunately, under the leadership of a transit-minded Governor, it looks like we're finally getting genuine support for these crucial transit enhancements. The current challenge is to get the legislature to pass the Governor's transportation bond bill, which fully funds the GLE.

Tom, any reason the city wouldn't consider advocating for a longer Green Line spur at Union Square? I'm not sure how much additional right-of-way is needed, but a stop/terminus at Park Street (there appears to be room to the south of the current tracks) might make more sense than trying to clear enough room in Union Square for a turnaround loop. (Just curious)

I'm not Tom, but I think the Prospect, Webster, and Washington St bridges create a bottleneck. The new Lincoln Park school is quite close to the railroad tracks.

Hmm. That does appear to present quite the problem.

Never mind.
