Reason Behind the 48-hour Parking Rule
Dec. 27th, 2007 10:34 amThere has been some talk in this community about the 48-hour parking rule. Can someone explain the rationale behind this law? I have a car, but I take the "T" or ride my bike to work, so it doesn't make sense to me to have to move my car for no reason. I understand the need to move my car for street-sweeping, but this 48-hour thing doesn't seem to have a basis.

Date: 2007-12-27 07:06 pm (UTC)I might agree with you, but ... if it WERE just about revenue (something TC rightly argues against), it wouldn't take complaints from neighbors to get cars ticketed after 48+ hours - the city would have a better way of enforcing it, so they could generate more revenue.
I don't think there IS a good explanation, because the problems about low parking space to car ratio still exist, no matter what duration there is ... if someone is parked for 48 hours, and i leave my spot, the 48 hour spot is still blocked.
The 48 hour rule doesn't magically make more parking spots available.
What I posted was the official explanation from the city's webpage.
I don't know that it truly holds water.
