Does anybody have any ideas for a venue?  I need a place to throw a party with music and dancing that won't fit in my apartment this February 2nd, and the VFW is booked on the night I want.  Anybody have any other ideas?

Edit: To be more specific, I'd like to fit around 100 people, be able to serve alcohol and some snacks (not a wild-crazy-beer-mache-floor sort of event though) but avoid catering, and not have to pay very much.  I was wondering if anyone had any non-traditional venue ideas that they could share.  The Dilboy VFW costs more than I'd want to pay, but I love the space and it holds significance for the event (my 10 year anniversary of living in Somerville)

I have a 600W sound system with large 1700W peak PA cabs, a mic and a 8ch mixer, and club style sound controlled lighting. I spin a lot of club music, anything from synthpop to house to misc electronic stuff. In addition I also do a lot of darker gothy/industrial stuff as well. http://www.getdjpet.com has my setlists and some example sets.

Together In Motion, on Broadway at Rt. 16, is available for party rental. They've got good lights and a sound system, and huge foam blocks to build with. They're alcohol-free, which you may consider either a plus or a minus.

You can rent the Gibbs gym in Arlington for parties, concerts, sporting events, and so on. If I recall correctly, it's only about $50, but you have to serve food in a different room.

My husband planned a party for me at the Burren a while back (in the back room). The party may have to end a little early, but we all stayed around once everyone else was let in! It was great fun and the staff was awesome!

What about the Dilboy on Cutter and Summer? Or is that the VFW? You might need to have a lot of people to fill it though. More than an over-sized house-party. Somerville Arts Council had the Rock n' Roll fashion show there a few years back with lots of dancing and what not.

Most bars will let you rent a section of their space out and assign a server or two to your party, for the right price. How about Orleans?

That is indeed the VFW. It's a great place for renting, for future reference.

FYI - If accessiblity is a concern for you, Anthony's on Highland Ave is not accessible (unless you wish to enter through the back and troup through the kitchen), and parking is an issue.
Good Times is scheduled to close in coming months, don't know when, though.
The Dante Club has a nice big function room on Craigie Street with parking, and there are 2 other VFW halls - one on Highland Ave, near the Y, the other on Glen Street, near the Capuano School - this one has plenty of parking. There is also the Winter Hill Yacht Club, behind Assembly Square Mall.

Good Time should be open at least through March, maybe April.

Are you thinking of the Legion hall on Highland Avenue? (I don't know if they rent out at all)

Providing additional information (such as how many people you're planning for, things like parking needs, alcohol, etc) would make it easier for others to provide answers that would likely be more useful to you.

Also, invite me! ;)

the Dante club on Craigie St is a good place for something like that. They have a bar, parking and a covered spot for smokers. Last time we had a function there (last year) it was reasonably priced. Good luck!
