Need help finding a bed!
Jan. 4th, 2008 04:36 pmI'm really tired of the uncomfortable futon I'm on right now! I have a really nice queen-size bed frame, but I need a mattress and box spring for it!
Does anyone know where I can pick up a CHEAP queen-sized mattress and box spring around Davis/Porter/Harvard/Central? I went by Sleepy's yesterday, and even their cheapest set was over $500. I just need something to get me by for a few months till I can get out and drop the cash on a nicer mattress.
I also want to avoid the used mattress route if possible, as I really don't like the thought of getting buggies from strangers!
Thanks!

Date: 2008-01-04 09:53 pm (UTC)The suggestion of Macy's is also a good one if you can catch a sale--you might be better off with them for the more long-term, high end purchase (which'll still end up being supercheap)

Date: 2008-01-04 10:07 pm (UTC)I do not recommend this for sanitary purposes, and you wanted to avoid a used *shudders* mattress, but I just wanted to throw this option out there, however repulsive it may be.

Date: 2008-01-05 01:39 am (UTC)However, none of the organizations that collects goods for homeless and poor people (Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc.) can legally take a mattress or box spring.
So you need to give it away to an individual or put it on the curb with the regular trash--mattresses and box springs each count as one piece of "furniture", and you're allowed to dispose of two pieces of furniture per week.
