I'd like to make this as democratic as possible, so I'd like people to vote for a time during the week they would prefer and a location. I've included the top locations people suggested.

I promise this will almost be the last poll. I'll make another post soon with the day and location to get a count of the number of people likely to show up.

Your answers will be anonymous.

EDIT: As of midnight on Friday night/Saturday morning, the Burren is choosen as the bar for our social event.

Just posting here to say that I'm flexible as to both time and location.

One thing to keep in mind for Ryan's is that their trivia night is Tuesday. They have live music some other nights.

I wonder how a davis_square trivia night would go.

If the theme were local codes and regulations or obscure facts about public transportation, I would definitely want you on my team.

There actually WAS a Somerville-themed trivia event at ArtBeat a few years ago, Jimmy Tingle hosting, which Ron just happened to kick everyone's ass at. I think he won a big bag of quarters.

I'm sort of surprised that one of the yuppiest places is in the top three in terms of votes. Orleans. Ugh.

I know I say this a lot, but the feel at the bar at Orleans is a ton different than in the restaurant part. Especially on weeknights and weekend days, the people at the bar are usually Somerville locals (as in born and raised) who like things like beer, hockey and football. It definitely doesn't match the rest of the place, but it really is a nice place to hang out and chat with neighbors. Plus, they're forever sponsoring local charity and local political events.

I would never believe that if I hadn't started going there and met the people myself.

Two of the places are not actually in Davis. Of the three that are in Davis, two are loud and lack space for a large-ish group of people to actually be more or less "together". I'm not at all surprised. I don't care whether a place is "yuppie", but I do care whether it's a) close to Davis Square, and b) an appropriate space for a meetup.

I've been to meetups at the Burren, and in my experience, if you draw more than about 8 people, it fails.

How close to Davis proper constitutes "close" by your definition? Teele may have its own name, but PJ's is a shorter walk to the Square than many spots that are universally considered "Davis Square".

I understand wanting to limit the distance to, say, 200 feet for an event like this, but I think it's absurd to say it's not the neighborhood anymore when you go beyond that.

(I voted for PJs because I live in that direction, Union is way too far away, I agree with you about the Burren, and Orleans & JT are too loud. But assuming the time works, I'd show up at any of the Davis locations, by which I mean all but the Independent.)

Bar at Orleans != restaurant at Orleans.

Especially on the weekdays.

The bar at Orleans is as likely to mess up food orders, however.

I voted for Orleans, but Ryan's would have been my next choice. I don't think we'd fit in Sligo.

At least nobody suggested Diva Lounge or Sagra.

One other possibility: Johnny D's on a non-band night (I think that would be Mondays).

I actually really like the bar at Orleans, and the crowd there isn't too yuppie. They also have good drinks. I don't know that I'd choose to go there for dinner though. I agree with Cos that it's the best of all the venues given as choices for actually having a meetup where you can hear people and mingle. The big area with couches is rather nice and feels more like a coffeehouse than a yuppie bar.

Some friends of mine and I met at Orleans to watch one of the afternoon ALCS playoff games in 2004. We figured it would be more chill, and we were right-- there were only about ten people in there when the game started, and everybody was there for the game. But then the bartender insisted she couldn't turn the sound on for the game because it would interfere with the music. Mind you, this was at about 4:00. Everybody promptly paid and left. It was so weird.

Hmmm, I know from experience that music is def. off for games now during the day (for football, anyway; I watch allthe Sunday games there), and for Boston games that are at night. I watched the majority of the '07 Series there, and they def. had game sound on.

I think this would work better as a checkbox poll rather than a radio button, because most people would be happy with multiple options, and you're more likely to find the best overlap that way.

Joshua Tree seems only slightly more popular here than Mitt Romney, to judge by this week's polls.

Take it from the state of Louisiana, run-offs are the way to go.
