Hullo all.

I'm (relatively) new to the area and I need some help.

I've decided that I need to get a tattoo on my arm covered over. The reason for the tattoo has died out and I just don't want the reminder anymore. Can anyone recommend a good place for me to do this?

I'm hoping for someone who will help me with the design and is very clean. (I'm diabetic and so I have to be extra cautious about that.)

If anyone could help me, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanx.

Added the body art tag to your post; perhaps you can get some ideas from one of the previous times this question has come up, too!

I've heard that Redemption in Porter is good at cover-ups and is an all-around great tattoo shop. I'd advise against Chameleon in Harvard Square as their prices tend to be high and their attitude a little bitchy.

They did good work for me and my gf. Haven't seen any of their cover-ups, but they know what they're doing.

Fat Ram's over in JP is supposed to be the best in town and one of the best in the country, but they have an enormous waiting list and I hear that Ram himself only takes on large custom projects he personally finds interesting.

they might try and steer you towards someone else if it's a really basic piece, as Ram has a long wait list and is crazy expensive, but i think in the end it's your decision.
and he does amazing cover-up work.

Really?? I went to Chameleon for a cover/repair, and they were great. I'm a difficult customer, and they were great-- my body's reaction to anything invasive, from immunizations to tattoos to piercing, is to pass out. After about two minutes under the needle, I traditionally turn white as a ghost and almost black out (I come prepared with hard candies and water).

The artist helped me fix the tattoo, and was very patient when I needed to stop to avoid passing out. He also was very careful, and the tattoo not only fixed the old tattoo, but was absolutely phenomenal in quality. It was pricey, but I think you get what you pay for-- quality work.

I've heard good things about Redemption, and Fat Ram's Pumpkin Tattoo is also awesome, though not as close. Take a look at some of the cover-up work on their site: http://fatramtattoo.com

I'd recommend Tribal Ways which is on Mass Ave near Newbury St. I've been there twice with my ex-girlfriend and I've always found them really professional and clean.

Go to Redemption!!! Joe is the best, super great. He did a fantastic fix up of a tattoo I had done at Chameleon.

That being said, I'd stay away from Chameleon.

fwiw, i'd take all the recommendations with a grain of salt and then go look at the artist's books to see what hits you most.

my recomendation, if you have a way to get there, is to go to Mulysa Mayhem who works at Lightwave Tattoo in Saugus. I don't know anything about the other artists from that shop, I can really only recommend her. The user icon for this pic is one of the pieces she did for me.

I, too, will second the Chameleon. I had a cover up done there (on my foot!) and it came out absoultely phenomenal. You can't even tell I ever had a nother tattoo. My artist was wonderful and did the best he could to redirect pain (as the foot is a sensitive area). It took 2 sessions and was quite reasonable in pricing 9so I thought.)
