Where in the area can I find a delicious apple fritter laden with chunks of apple and cinnamon and tastiness?  Starbucks just isn't cutting it.

I don't know, but now I want one.

actually, Danish Pastry House in Medford on Boston Ave is a good bet, but it's a bit of a walk.

They are not exactly traditional but Martsa makes wonderful fried apple rings (it's on the desert menu under apple fritter)

It's not a fritter, but the apple cinnamon bread from When Pigs Fly (on Highland Ave) is pretty amazing.

Try Lyndell's Bakery on Broadway, near Soundbites. Old-fashioned bakery.
I haven't been in awhile, but they used to have the best ones.

Yes, they've got absolutely delicious giant apple dumplings, with about a whole apple inside. They're amazing.

I believe they're baked pastry with an apple inside. Since they don't catastrophically de-liquid the apples before baking, you get a (nearly whole, cored) apple inside that's much smaller than the pastry dome. If you're optimistic, that's where the melty ice cream fits. If you're me, that's where you give up.

Lyndells' apple fritters are amazing! I heard from someone who worked there (maybe five-six years ago) that they only make them on Saturdays and a few assorted other days - they're too labor intensive to make them everyday.

I don't know if he was pulling my leg or what, but Saturday mornings they seemed to have them.

Actually, many things at Lyndell's are like this. They bake every day, but they don't bake everything every day. Some things, like the six-grain bread, sell out quickly on the days they have it. Also, cookies are not baked every day. Donuts aren't baked at all during the Christmas holidays because the bakers are too busy baking Christmas treats.

If there's something you really like at Lyndell's, it's probably a good idea to ask on what days it is baked, so you won't stop in to get it on a day when it is not available.

I don't know when the apple fritters are baked, but I'm going to start looking for them.
