Can anyone recommend a diner type place that serves breakfast all day in the area? My husband and I live two blocks away from Powderhouse Square so the closer to there the better, walking distance a must. We moved in the winter so we're just now starting to explore the area on foot and would love a place we can walk to on Sundays and grab breakfast anytime of the day.

I love Kelly's diner in Ball Square. Depending on precisely where you are in Powderhouse it will vary but it shouldn't be too long of a walk. They aren't open all day but they do make a terrific breakfast.

Seconded. Kelly's makes me happy.

Kelly's is pretty damn awesome.

They're only open up to 3PM. And lookout for Sunday's, you'll get a bit of a wait.

Soundbites is a block away and just as rockin for breakfast, not diner-style though. Again, the line outside can get pretty damn long. Also open up until 3PM.

Rosebud is worth a look. Two blocks east of Davis.

Hmm...I've actually had really bad experiences with Rosebud. They're greasy, but not in a good way, the service is lousy, and everything tastes like it came out of a mix, which it probably did. They didn't even bother to blend the powdered hot chocolate completely into the water. Go with Kelly's or Soundbites. Or Renee's, which is outside of Davis towards Teele Square.

Kelly's and Soundbites are both good, but only open until mid-afternoon. Kelly's is good typical diner food (read: super greasy), and Soundbites is good for the tastiness. Both are on Broadway, between Powderhouse Square and Ball Square.

my thoughts

love kelly's, old school somerville diner. solid food and endearing service.

never had a bad experience at rosebud's. food not quite as good as kelly's, but solid - and in my experience the service has been great.

i'm a big fan of the food at renee's, but the service here is consistently craptacular. they always seem to be understaffed. but, you can't beat the homefries.

soundbites also has awesome food, but do not go here for a leisurely weekend brunch. it's a small place and there's always a line - they have no problem with being rude to you to get you to pay your bill and move along. at this point, i will only go to soundbites mon-friday.

johnny d's (on holland ave) is kind of hit or miss. but they do usually have a jazz musician(s) and sometimes the food is excellent.

welcome to the neighborhood, and happy brunching! :)

Foodwise, Soundbites on B'way is really incredible. If it's warm out, a trick to avoiding the long line is to go to the counter for take out. Then eat a picnic breakfast in Powderhouse Park.

You're going to find breakfast-all-day a rarity in the Boston area. I'm from the Mid-Atlantic where all night diners are a staple, and I really missed them when I moved to New England. One good breakfast-all-day place I like is the S&S Deli in Inman Square. Definitely worth hopping over a few neighborhoods for.
