oh hi.

i have an interview tomorrow on dover street in somerville in the late afternoon. google street view shows what looks like a pretty residential street with some meters, and now i have to ask all those annoying questions - will it be easy to find a spot at one, or does that area get congested at that time? how strictly are they monitored? alternate parking in the immediate area? etc.

admittedly i typically avoid somerville like the plague because i have the worst sense of direction [ever] and usually get lost, but i really want to land this job and would hate to mess it up by doing something like showing up late because i was looking for parking.

thanks!

There's a parking lot on Day St (at Herbert). There's usually meter parking available around there. Or you could just take the T and walk the 1 block.

The parking lot has meters

If you can take the T, do it, because it's pretty close by. If you can't, you have somewhat of a shot for metered parking either there, one of the small lots in the area, or on another street.

Good luck with the interview.

yeah, that.

You might just want to spring for a cab if you don't want to mess up nice interview clothes on public transportation.

Good luck.

If you are coming from Quincy in the afternoon, you probably ought to take the train and park at like North Quincy. It's better than parking in Davis, being late, or slogging through the tunnel at rush hour.

I don't know where in Quincy you are, but for your info if you do get the job, I used to work in N. Quincy and I loved the T commute between there and Davis: 45 minutes including the walking time to/from the stations. I miss having T time to read.

just an FYI, some of the meters on the side streets are only one hour. Make sure you look.

Oh yeah, also, there is almost always parking on mass ave. You'll have to walk a little further, but I've never not been able to find a spot on mass ave. Just check google to see if it's still walkable in your interview clothes/with your stuff.

Dover Street is not very long. Anywhere on it is walkable from Mass. Ave.

I didn't think it was very far, but what is walkable in sneakers is not always the same thing as what's walkable in potentially uncomfortable interview shoes, so I thought I'd throw that out there.

The parking lot meters are 3 hours, but the street ones are mostly 2 hours.

Don't mess it up by wearing too much eyeliner and making MySpace faces!!

Get on Elm make a right on Chester then make a right on Herbert and take the lot on the left after some 200 feet. You can also use the Citizens Bank lot which is a wee bit further on on Elm. I always got a spot in either.

Good luck!

You're coming from Quincy? Take the Red Line, don't drive. Is this interview at Candlewick Press?

I don't know much, but they very recently moved into that building from a few blocks away in Cambridge. They are located directly behind the Holland Street entrance to the Davis Square T station, which is why I recommend taking the T. Someone I know interviewed there and liked them, but could not afford to take a pay cut to work there.

you could always get there like waaaay early, find parking, and spend some time bonding with the car. i'm not joking, I do this often.

If you're worried about it this is not a bad idea. There are many worse areas to spend a nervous hour or two before an interview than Davis Square.

I've had plenty of luck with the lot off of Holland and Buena Vista Road. Right across the street from Orleans. I believe its 3 hours for meters there.

So... how did it go yesterday? Both the parking and the interview?
