Best Pizza?

I think tomorrow might be a good day to do poll #3. Lets do "best pizza in or around Davis Square". I don't want to delete again or rush people to think of places, so go ahead and please discuss what should (or shouldn't) be included.

Muchas gracias.

Edited Edit: The rule here is going to be located in or around Davis Square not delivers in or around Davis Square. This knocks off Pinky's. Its in Medford and that is just a bit too far away. I'd say anything walkable within 15 minutes of the Davis Square T stop.

EDIT 2: I'm going to be away from the computer for most of this morning (editing this at 7:30 am), so expect the poll sometime around mid-day.

Seconded. They're the best I've had since moving to Davis.

except when they used those heavily printed pizza boxes for some Jackie Chan movie. Ugh - the pizza tasted like printing ink. Fortunately they stopped that. Otherwise - great pizza.

Can we do places that deliver to Davis? I love Dial-a-pizza. Silly name but awesome ingredient list.

Theo's is also a great pizza delivery place.

I will be the only one who votes for the Sicilian pizza at Mike's. But I do indeed nominate it so that I can have my lonely vote.

Mike's, Christo's Seven Star (do they use an apostrophe?), Domino's (I think they are take-out only), Pizzeria Uno (Porter Square)

Mike's? Seriously?
I have heard such good things over the years but hadn't been, then after the TMBG show, the BF and I went there and my pizza was COLD after waiting 20 minutes for it, and he specifically ordered a burger with NO cheese and they confirmed this 3 times and gave him lots of cheese, so we sent it back and they shrunk his burger and gave me more cold pizza that tasted like cardboard soaked in grease.
We were not impressed.
Did we go on an off day? Because from teh looks of a comment prior to yours, someone thought they'd have a "lonely vote" in voting for them...
I'm not trying to be mean, I am just curious.

When you post the actual poll, please include the location of each pizza joint (maybe in an lj-cut). Thanks.

Davis Square T stop. You catch a train to South Station, hop on an Acela to NYC, get off at Penn Station, walk outside and go in any direction until you find a pizza place.

Little bit more of a wait than going to Mike's, but worth it.

I'm obsessed with the pizza at Newtowne Grille. Definitely closer to Porter than Davis, but also definitely closer to Davis than some of the other suggestions here, so I say include it!

There is Davis Sq. pizza too - on Highland at Willow. The people are nice; the pizza is so-so (and when I have ordered it, always oddly oval)

From: [identity profile] aquaflame16.livejournal.com
aww, I guess Pini's is probably too far to count too . . . def. walking distance from Ball sq (home) but prob not so much from Davis.
DiMio is wonderful, but maybe a bit far (far side of Porter)?

I do agree that including all the places that will deliver to Davis would be absolutely insane!

Technically Subway and Dunkin's both have "pizza" but I think it would be safe to leave them out of this ;)
Also "Davis Square Pizza" (highland and willow). I suppose we could take it on faith that Urban Gourmet will actually ever open again and include them . . .

OK, so far the list of eligible nominees appears to be, from west to east:

Theo's, Angelina's, Mike's, Christo's Seven Star (check spelling), Domino's, Newtowne Grille, Pizzeria Uno.

Are there no pizza places in Powderhouse or Ball Square?

Marco's, on Mass Ave. is definitely within 15 mins walking.
Their Shrimp Scampi is awesome.

I'd also include DiMio, south of Porter on Mass Ave. It's within 15 mins walking...

Gargoyles always has a pizza on their bar menu. With super-thin crisp crust. And very tasty toppings.

Of these, Alex has closed, and La Ronga is pretty far away (then again, so is City Slicker, which is across the street from it)

Walking distances

Date: 2008-05-06 07:57 pm (UTC)
From: [personal profile] ron_newman
Google Maps tells me that Pini's pizzeria is 1.2 miles from Davis Square, while City Slicker is 1.1 miles. I'd call those a 20-minute walk, not 15, but walking speeds vary.

Pinky's is 1.5 miles away, which is the same distance from Davis as Harvard Square is. I'm sure we don't want to include Harvard Square in this survey.

So, I do see a big difference in best pizza (the food) vs best pizza place (the space and/or other menu itmes).

Since I've seen comments about shrimp scampi (not pizza!) and Gargoyles (not pizza place!) I figured I should ask for clarification.

None.
The best pizza I've had in Davis is Cinderella's in Central Square (Kendall end). They do deliver to Hancock & Summer Streets in Somerville.

Unless we count Dial-A-Pizza. But cinderella's is still way better.

Summation of nominees so far

From: [personal profile] ron_newman
Davis Square proper - Mike's, Christo's Seven Star, Domino's, Gargoyles (does it really belong in the list?)

Highland Ave - Davis Square Pizza, Caffe Rossini

Porter Square - deMio, Pizzeria Uno, Newtowne Grill

Upper Mass Ave, Cambridge - Marco's

Teele Square - Theo's, Angelina's

Ball Square - Soundbites On Broadway (does it really belong on the list?), Urban Gourmet (but it's been closed for months)

Beyond the one-mile radius (and thus excluded): Pini's, City Slicker, Pinky's, Dial-a-Pizza, Cinderella's

Did I miss any?

Double H Boston City Pizza, or whatever the heck their name actually is (I think they answer their phones as Boston City Pizza), Highland and Lowell. Though it might not get many votes, due to the fact that nobody remembered to nominate it till now, and I'm not sure it'd get mine...

The BBQ chicken pizza from Davis Square Pizza is awesome. I had it shortly after moving here, and using ground chicken blew my mind. So much better than giant thick slices of chicken breast.

Not sure I've tried anything else there...
