Anyone else heard the most horrifyingly sad cat noise for the past three days around Cedar Street?  I'd check it out, but I have a hunch it's some kidnapping ploy and I'd end up in the back of a van.

It sounds like one cat and doesn't sound like mating season, really.  Do I just have a new neighbor or is there a cat in need that I (and everyone else, apparently) am ignoring?

***I just heard back from the Animal Control officer - she thinks it's probably a cat / cats in heat, or males fighting over them.

I've heard it too, and haven't managed to get outside fast enough to figure out where it's coming from.

D:

hopefully you can go look and call animal control or something? if it's this often and so many people have already heard it maybe they could hunt it down, put out some traps or something.

Dude, call animal control. THREE DAYS? The cat is probably stuck under a porch or in a basement, or injured.

CALL ANIMAL CONTROL.

I agree on calling animal control, but may be innocuous. I once had a Burmese who would yowl like her tail was trapped in a meat grinder whenever I left the apartment for more than five minutes. Other owners of Burmese and Siamese told me it's not an uncommon problem with them, and that the only solution was for them to always have either human or feline company. (I ended up finding her a new home, with a family that had people home most of the time, as well as other cats.)

It's been going on for three days. You were concerned enough to post on livejournal about it. Calling animal control isn't eactly rocket science.

i agree to some extent, though calling animal control and saying "i hear a cat meowing, but i don't know where it is" may not be very helpful either.

I and my housemates heard it on Sunday night. I ran outside to try and find said cat, but it had stopped meowing. I couldn't find the cat though.

Was walking around the block late night/early morning on Saturday, saw a grey/brown, maybe calicoish, puss walking around. It seemed pretty friendly, but I was in no condition to report it or check for tags or anything.

That wasn't a normal cat sound. I have two Siamese and they are loud, but not nearly that loud. That meow disturbed them enough that they rushed to the window and were anxious for a good 20 minutes after the 'screaming cat episode'.
