I can't believe that there is no "breakfast" tag!

I've been looking on yelp, but there don't seem to be any business hours listed there. A friend and I want to meet at 7 am for breakfast in Davis next week. Is anything open at that early hour? Renees doesn't open until 7:30.

Diesel's open.

Do they serve breakfast?

That depends on what kind of "breakfast" you want. If you want bagels or muffins or pastries with coffee, yes. If you want eggs and bacon or waffles, no.

Sound Bites is open if you feel like trekking to Ball Sq.

As is Kelly's, I believe.

Kelly's opens at 6am every day.

and True Grounds - more like breakfast than Diesel (egg & bacon burritos, lox & cream cheese bagels, etc.), but less than Sound Bites or Kelly's (no pancakes, waffles, etc.

Maybe the Blue Shirt Cafe? I don't know their hours, but I've noticed that they advertise an Early Bird Special.

I think that starts at 8, though I could be wrong.

starbucks should be open, but there are probably much better places to meet for breakfast. i think the blue shirt cafe is open by then, too.

Grand Prix Cafe, on Mass. Ave. at Day Street, opens for breakfast. I don't remember their hours, though (they keep changing).

"breakfast" tag is a good idea. I haven't done anything at all about reorganizing "dining", "local food", and "restaurants", because we moderators delegated that to [livejournal.com profile] elements last fall. If she's listening here, I hope she'll share her ideas.

Yep, now that I'm recovered from my extended illness thingie, I'll be getting back to stuff like that soonish. I'm also thinking we need a tag for farmers' markets/CSAs in some form, and one for food stores (supermarkets & bodegas) as differentiated from eateries.

"Broken Yoke" is a misspelling, but a really funny one ...

Isn't the Rosebud open that early?

I want to say they open at 8am, because one time a visiting friend had an early flight home, and we thought we could go there before she left... And we were wrong.

I seem to remember we were trying to go around 7-7:30, but I could be wrong about that. Maybe it was even earlier. It would be worth a call, probably.

rosebud's opens pretty late for breakfast, like 8 or 8:30.

I'm pretty sure it's 8:00. I once met a friend there for breakfast at 7:30, and we ended up walking over to Diesel to kill time before the Rosebud opened. We were pretty well caffeinated by the time we left the Rosebud, since we ordered coffee there, too.

Mr. Crepe opens at 7 I think, and the Strawberry, Kiwi & honey crepe makes a good breakfast. :) They also have muffins and other breakfast pastry things sometimes.

That's the best suggestion by far.

You are such a Mr. Crepe fanboy. It's adorable.

The Broken Yolk appears to be open at 7:00 a.m.

One morning I was doing my laundry quite early (probably around 9:00 a.m.), and I could smell them cooking up a storm.

Maybe check Mike's? I have never eaten breakfast there, but I am pretty sure I've seen signs advertising it.

Date: 2008-06-04 05:21 pm (UTC)
From: [personal profile] ron_newman
You saw the signs years ago. They no longer open for breakfast or serve any breakfast-like food.

Date: 2008-06-04 05:25 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] hrafn.livejournal.com
And now everyone knows just how much attention I pay to Mike's. Oops.

Supreme Kitchen isn't in Davis, but it's a five-minute bus ride away and it's open at 7 a.m.

Alternately, I'm a big fan of breakfast picnics -- pack a cooler and eat on the tables in the square.

From: [identity profile] makoshark.livejournal.com
That's my favorite suggestion, if the weather permits it.

I bet the Ball Sq. Cafe (which is yummy and awesome) is open at the same time Kelly, etc. open.

If you aren't a "locavore" or anything like that, there's also Dunks, Bucks, and McDonalds.

Andy's Diner on Mass Ave?

From: [identity profile] amethystmoon.livejournal.com
There's a diner on Mass Ave.? Whereabouts? Is it open late, unlike Rosebud and Kelly's? That's what I miss most about "real" diners... eggs and coffee at 2am :)

It's only open during the day though.

It's not a prefab factory-made diner like Kelly's or Rosebud, if that's what you mean. Just an ordinary storefront in a brick building.
