OK, so I'm moving from the Davis area to Central Sq. in Cambridge on Saturday June 14th. I can move most of my stuff myself with the help of my friends. However I'm possibly looking to hire a couple of strong people to help me out with doing the real heavy lifting like the futon/dresser, etc.

My problem is that I don't think this is a big enough job to hire professional movers with a giant truck, but I know with the help I have now I can't do it on my own.

Are there any area services where I can rent somebody to help me for an hour or two? I don't even need a truck because I can rent a U-Hal van, I just need a couple of strong people that can do the lifting. Is anybody out there in LJ land looking to get some exercise and make a few bucks next weekend?

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

I have used MWAV and can recommend them highly... also, for even smaller moves, there's a "guy with a truck" (not an official name, just what I call him). I talk about him in this comment (http://community.livejournal.com/davis_square/859093.html?thread=7327189#t7327189) on an old post, and someone replied w/ a similar recommendation. (I don't know if Stephen Dean is actually still helping people move; by this point it's been a while.) I know you said you don't need a truck, but if he is still in business, you wouldn't have to deal with Uhaul at all, which could be good.

you might try http://www.movinghelp.com/ for hourly helpers. Just enter your zipcode and be sure to read the user comments for the movers before you choose one.

I've had excellent experiences working with a Tibetan mover named Lama of "Boston Movers" on that website and would recommend him. He's local.

I had good luck with Lama also through emove.com.
