If you're taking your adorable chocolate lab out for a stroll on the bike-path on a lovely Sunday afternoon, please protect your dog and other people using the path and keep him on a leash.

I witnessed an almost-accident at close range as the dog ambled from one side of the path to another, forcing a bicyclist to slam on his brakes and stop hard to avoid hitting him.

He doesn't know any better, he's just a dog, doing what dogs do. You, on the other hand, should.

I agree to an extent. Since we're talking about dogs I didn't bring up kids. If I were a parent I wouldn't walk with my children down a bike path. Small children can get in the way but I've had to dodge more dogs then small children, runners and people roller blading. I do agree it is definitely a people problem. But having dogs on the bike path, at least in my personal experience has caused more issues then the previous mentioned.

call animal control and the police repeatedly.

people have done that, and been the target of harassment from the dog owners for it.

Seriously, it's been reported enough times that animal control knows it's a common problem there.

If you walk away and then call, you have anonymity.

which does you no good if you live right there.

I have already heard the dog owners making comments about the people who live there, when the ACO's show up.

It doesn't matter if the people living there called or not.

There needs to be regular enforcement there, enough that the usual scofflaws don't do it anymore.

Sporadic enforcement doesn't stop the problem, but it does get the ire of the scofflaws, who direct it at the only permanent fixture in that area - the abutting residents.
