If you're taking your adorable chocolate lab out for a stroll on the bike-path on a lovely Sunday afternoon, please protect your dog and other people using the path and keep him on a leash.
I witnessed an almost-accident at close range as the dog ambled from one side of the path to another, forcing a bicyclist to slam on his brakes and stop hard to avoid hitting him.
He doesn't know any better, he's just a dog, doing what dogs do. You, on the other hand, should.

Date: 2008-07-14 04:55 pm (UTC)Yes, the consequence of it being for the entire community is that you can't bomb along at race speeds, and sometimes have to pay extra attention because little kids (or people walking for that matter) aren't always predictable either - but it'd be a shame not to have them.
As for the people near Lexington Park, if they're a major nuisance, call animal control and the police repeatedly.
Re: dogs and kids and bikes and rollerblades and whatnot
Date: 2008-07-14 05:05 pm (UTC)people have done that, and been the target of harassment from the dog owners for it.
Seriously, it's been reported enough times that animal control knows it's a common problem there.
Re: dogs and kids and bikes and rollerblades and whatnot
Date: 2008-07-14 05:57 pm (UTC)I'm sure they know it's a problem, I'm just saying that at the very least, people need to keep calling, and contact their alderman.
Re: dogs and kids and bikes and rollerblades and whatnot
Date: 2008-07-14 06:00 pm (UTC)which does you no good if you live right there.

Date: 2008-07-14 06:14 pm (UTC)It doesn't matter if the people living there called or not.
There needs to be regular enforcement there, enough that the usual scofflaws don't do it anymore.
Sporadic enforcement doesn't stop the problem, but it does get the ire of the scofflaws, who direct it at the only permanent fixture in that area - the abutting residents.
Re: dogs and kids and bikes and rollerblades and whatnot
Date: 2008-07-14 07:13 pm (UTC)I completely agree that there needs to be regular enforcement there, so the usual scofflaws are dispersed.
I wonder, if every single person who posted about the Lexington Park issue emailed their Alderman and called the police every single time they ran into this problem, if we would see results?
