Excitement - new ownership of Soleil Cafe!

Okay, it's a little out of Davis...
The boarded-up Soleil Cafe in Teele has some new signs up - there is new ownership of the Cafe and one of the co-owners was the pastry chef at the Modern in the North End.

They were doing some work inside so I stopped in and said hello. I met the pastry chef guy and he was very nice - they will have cannolis and cakes and Southern Italian sandwich-y stuff. Most importantly, he said they'll be staying open til 10 PM! (The original Soleil had really weird hours) He said they're keep the Soliel Cafe name, and they'll try to re-open within 2-3 weeks.

So, yay! He asked me to get the word out so here you go.

This is great news!

I have friends who swear by the Modern's cannolis, but I was always a steadfast fan of La Contessa's. Now that they're no longer in Davis, I would consider y'all lucky to be getting Modern cannolis close by! (and I will have to sneak in for a sample when I'm back in February)

I think the flyers on the outside of the store mentioned the new hours, but I was on information overload/euphoria after I heard they'd be open past 5 PM :)

I live right up the street and I'm very thankful to hear about their new hours. I was glad to see Soleil Cafe there when I moved in to the neighborhood until I realized that I could only actually go in there and buy anything on the rare day that I was going in really late to work for whatever reason.

I'm so sad because I can almost SEE the store from my house and I *HEART* gelato, but I'm moving to Malden. It would have been so great to have gelato almost whenever I wanted it!!

That spot is so nice. It get's wonderful, warm sunlight in the afternoon and you can watch the people at the bus stop across the street while you sip your tea. I'm glad someone is giving it a go there again!

Walked by this evening on my way home, and they're open! I didn't stop in, but will tomorrow morning. Hours as posted are

7am - 10pm Mon-Fri (Yay!!!)
8am - 10pm Saturday
8am - 8pm Sunday
