easy_wind mentioned this but I just want to underscore: the best bagels in the area come from Kupel's on Harvard Street in Brookline, between Union Square and Coolidge Corner. You probably won't find anything up to your standard anywhere in Somerville or Cambridge (though you might try the ones at S&S in Inman Square).

Go to Kupel's, buy a couple dozen, and freeze 'em!
