I'm sure I missed some, but such is life. Also, I "got the call" that the office is closing early because of the holiday on Monday so I'm leaving soon (yay for working for the State!).

LJ limited the number of choices I could list, so this will be divided into two polls. One for immediately within Davis Square and one for "within a mile, but not immediately within Davis Square".

[Poll #1250271]

just curious -- what is the LJ limit on poll choices?

I really like Sabur for drinks. I put other for the top one because I have never really drank at any of those places.

there's a place called Gargoyles? is it properly decorated?
i haven't been to any of these, except for Burren this one time a year ago and it was cool, and JSM with y'all.
Rosebud, i want to sit there, so i can feel like i'm in the movies of the era.

Gargoyles is an expensive-ish restaurant with a bar, on Elm Street next to Downtown Wine & Spirits.

Gargoyle's does in fact have several gargoyles for decoration, but other than that it's not particularly gothic.

Paul does make mind-bogglingly good martinis though.

I had never heard of or seen Gargoyles before I saw it mentioned in a promo for restaurant week. Definitely on the pricey side, but the food and service were incredible.

Rosebud has good food. Just make sure to go in the afternoon so you can get the fun old lady waitresses. The night manager there is a beast

Anyone who thinks the food at Tavern on the Square is edible is delusional. I can't see ever wanting to go there again unless there's a sporting event on television that can't be properly viewed without a noisy crowd of assholes keeping me company.

How many places have gone out of business at that location? Can we name them all?

Which one? The one at Central has quite a decent Continental brunch.

I've only been to the Central Sq. location and it was aggressively mediocre. Even something as simple as hamburgers were bad: flavorless and tough, with an enormous, dried-out bun that overwhelmed what little moisture there was in the sandwich.

I don't know what restaurants you go to all the time, but the food at the tavern is in my opinion very good for pub fare, if a touch on the expensive side.

cambridge common is 1.0 miles away from the burren per google maps... does that count? that's my favorite place in all of MA to get drinks! that's the only place you can get a cosmo for $7.50 instead of $9!!

Google maps tell me that it's a 1.1 mile walk. That's just barely beyond the poll's arbitrary one-mile limit. Ditto for Lizard Lounge and West Side Lounge.

Good bar, but really more of a Harvard/Porter thing. ;)

West side lounge is really nice! Lost points though for when i asked for a Martini, asking "what kind of Vodka would you like?" WTF???

Went there last night. The drinks at CC certainly are great but the food quality just isn't up there with some of the other options. That said, if I've already eaten, it's quite possibly the best beer bar that's close.

Clearly we need to have a massive bar crawl to do a side-by-side(-by-side...) comparison of all the options, and to facilitate further open discussion regarding the merits of each, and what constitutes a bar versus a restaurant. (My guess - if we fill it with drunken DS-LJers, it automatically adopts a bar feeling and forces out the restaurant go-ers...)

I chose solely on beer selection. Having a quality selection that changes out regularly is key for me.
