Verizon DSL deal
Jun. 17th, 2004 10:51 pmso i went to the verizon page to find out about fixing my cell, and found a really sweet deal for DSL service. they're offering DSL for 29.95/month, with the first month free (including a DSL modem and self-install kit). that's just 5 more than i'm paying for 'accelerated' dialup. or 10 more than i could be paying for a probably-better dialup ISP. AND, deal upon deals, they are now offering a 99.95 Linksys wireless router with a full 99.95 mail-in rebate. i checked out the service agreement and tried to poke around for hidden charges, but besides a 12.95 shipping fee for the modem etc., didn't find nothin'. not even shipping for the router.
so go to it, if you haven't already. you have to already have home verizon residential service.

sorry for the gushing endorsement. i'm just happy to consider fast affordable wireless access.

Date: 2004-06-23 03:04 pm (UTC)the epilogue to Verizon? they kept billing me. for three years. sent me to collections. for three years of service not delivered. they finally gave up and went away, and my credit record seems to be mysteriously intact.
fuck verizon.

$40/month for 18 months at 1.5 down 768k up is not bad (with a static IP address, which I like)... Also, the DSL modem they gave us is apparently also a router, though I already had one, so we don't use that feature.

Date: 2004-06-18 08:15 am (UTC)dangit.
Date: 2004-06-19 10:28 am (UTC)part of the decision for me is that i am not a cable tv subscriber, so all the bundled-service deals with any provider are not helpful in the least.
and RCN's website tells me it doesn't offer high-speed 'net in my area.
Re: dangit.
Date: 2004-06-23 03:24 pm (UTC)oh -- comcast, btw. i'd like RCN's higher data rates but don't want to pay their higher fees. (last time i checked, anyway. that was a couple years ago!)
