I voted at the Methodist church on Chapel Street, Ward 6-3. There was a line but it was moving quickly - I arrived at 8:10, left at 8:24. How are the lines elsewhere?
I was at the East Somerville Public Library a little after 7 and the line stretched out of the building and down the street, even though they had changed the usual layout of the polling station to allow more room for folks to line up indoors. But the line was moving at a pretty reasonable pace and it only took us about 20 minutes to get through it.
The line at Brown School was incredible. It stretched all the way around the perimeter of the fenced in area behind the school. Probably about 200 people ahead of me in line!
I arrived at 8:00 a.m. and left around 8:20 a.m. without getting a chance to cast my ballot (I had only moved about 30 people through, I'd guess). Also, lots of young people in line, so I was excited about that. I'll definitely be back after work to cast my vote.
...at the Teele Square fire station was about 1 hour, unprecedented in my (limited) experience. I jumped in the line at 8:04, starting just around the corner of Angelina's, and had made it to the fire engine a little over 1/2 hr. later. About 25 minutes later I was slipping my ballot into the box and getting my snappy "I voted" sticker.
The only hold up at this voting station seemed to be the post-voting check-out step: there were many "booths" to stand and vote, but not enough people staffing the check-out desk, so another line formed and backed up awkwardly in the tight quarters of the station.
All in all, only about 15-20 more minutes than I'd expected, and a fine day to vote on the front and back of my ballot.
I found the Methodist Church to be very quick as well arriving at 8:35 & getting out before 9:00. Up the street on College closer to the square was another story as you can see from this pict (which is on the side street looking toward College Ave [the polling place is the large brick building]): http://snipurl.com/531va
I was at the Methodist Church about the same time; got here about 8:15 and was out by 8:40ish. My husband insisted that he bring our 9 month old and explain voting to her this morning. I grumbled a little, since I would have taken a nap with her and voted later when there was no line, but was pleasantly surprised at how well it went.
At 6-1 (Dilboy Post), the line was around the corner at 6:45; when we left at 7:30 it was at least two blocks down and around the corner. I imagine it'll probably be like that at peak times today.
There don't seem to be too many Boston Area reports on here yet, but hopefully as the day progresses it will get more interesting: http://twittervotereport.com/
We got to the Argenziano School at Lincoln Park (Ward 2 Precinct 2) at about 8:30, and left around 9:35.
The line was moving along pretty well - there were just A LOT of people. The line seemed to have shrunk a little by the time we left; we probably arrived as part of the pre-work rush.
At the DPW garage (5-1) I waited approximately 30 minutes (maybe more, but certainly not less) at approximately 8a. I'd estimate about 50 people were ahead of me in line. I was happy enough with the forward progress of the line but was disappointed to see that there was such a bottle neck at the post-voting line. Having a second person there to check people out would have made a world of difference, but perhaps it is required to have a single individual doing this task.
Ward 7 Precint 1, the Senior Center -- I got there just before 9am and the line was out in the parking lot, but moving fairly quickly. Took me almost exactly 30 minutes to get through it and out. By the time I left, the line was inside the building.
Got to the Methodist Church at 9am. There was 1 person in line ahead of me. I was disappointed about the turnount and then I saw another polling place down the street, closer to Davis, that had a line wrapping around the block.
I went by the Ciampa Manor at 11:30. I talked to someone about halfway through the line. He said he'd been waiting for an hour. That means it is probably a 2-hour wait. Since I have a conference call at 1, I couldn't wait. I'll come back later in the afternoon.
Ward 4, Precinct 2 (and I think Ward 1, Precinct 3 was voting at the same place) at the fire station on Broadway had a relatively short line at 7:50 this am. Got through in about 20 minutes, start to finish, but the line was longer when I left around 8:10 and seemed to be growing. Best turnout I've seen, by far.
Has anybody gone to the Fire station on highland in recent hours? I have a disabled friend who can't really wait in these long lines. I'd imagine they'd get longer as the day progresses, with work getting out and such.
Ciampa was 10:35 - 12:10 for me. Then another brief wait while the poll worker fumbled with the uncooperative ballot-holding machine, so I was out by around 12:15. Longest lines I've ever seen here for an election.
When the election is over, I hope someone can explain what went wrong at Ciampa. Not enough poll workers? Too many registered voters for that location? Some other glitch?
It sounds like the lines are shorter everywhere else in Somerville. And my co-workers told me that there weren't any lines at all in the suburbs.
