Posting for a friend:

My partner and I are having relationship problems and have decided that we may need professional help. Does anyone have any recommendations for a couple's therapist they have had good experience with and/or have heard good things about? Ideally close to the redline would be ideal, but the right person and approach is more important. Honestly, neither of us has tried the therapy thing before, so I don't know what we need-- any recommendations/explications are welcome.

Thanks.

I've always recommended, and had good experiences myself with, Bet Macarthur. 617-661-5779 is her office number; I believe if you call it the message will give you/your friend her cell number as well. GLBT friendly, poly friendly, and in Central Square on the Red Line.

Do you know what her basic platform/theory is that she works from?

Sorry-no clue. She comes from a social work background if that helps, but the sum total of my knowledge about her methods is "They work for me."

finding out your friend's brand of insurance will be key to sorting through the information you're about to receive, too. Sorry for the double post.

Hi, can you do me one favor and add a subject line to this post? That will make it easier for future readers to find it. Thanks.

I haven't found anyone useful around here yet (though I continue to hope), but the book 10 Lessons to Transform Your Marraige by marriage experts John and Julie Gottman was excellent at clarifying what sort of things go wrong and how to make them go more right. This book is the best I've ever found on the subject, and I highly recommend it.
