"Greetings Friends...
BIG NEWS - Dave's is expanding! Our neighbor Cibeline has left us and relocated to Beacon Hill, so we are moving in! We have been busting at the seams for some time now, and are anxiously looking forward to having some room to realize our full potential. Construction has begun and we are hopeful to open the new side by mid to late January.

Our vision is a neighborhood market, a one-stop shop for all of your daily and entertaining needs, with an emphasis on local product whenever available. The plans include dairy, fresh produce, breads, deli counter, groceries and lots more of everything we already do. We will offer a larger more varied selection of cheeses, wine, beer, prepared foods, specialty groceries and much much more!

Dave's will be your neighborhood market, and we'd really like your input and suggestions. Our goal is to maintain a very well rounded shop; a little bit of everything to fulfill the daily shopping needs of our community. We will do our best keep it local and all natural wherever we can. If there is something you would like us to carry, send it along, and we'll do our best!

MIDNIGHT MADNESS! JOIN US!!
Thursday, December 4th 7pm-12 midnight
Come to Dave's for after hours! We did this last year, and it was a great time for all. We will be pouring many wines and tasting many delicious cheeses and snacks. Our friend Lourdes from Fiore di Nonno handmade fresh mozzarella will be here MAKING and sampling her warm, salty, fresh mozzarella....mmmmm. Any wine or cheese that we are featuring will be 10% off that night only! Buy 6 or more of the featured wines and get 15%!!

there's no post anywhere with a breakdown of what discounts what stores are offering, is there? i'm trying to decide if it is worth it to come out around 10pm, after my "crap TV date" is over...

There wasn't last year, so I just called all the stores to get the info. I plan to go anyway, so I'll call again today (after my meeting at 10 :) ). I'll make a post when I do.

don't have the ability to tape, unfortunately.... but, i know ABC shows Grey's Anatomy (yes, i'm embarrassed to admit that) online, so maybe the "date" will be up for that....

If I remember correctly, the discounts got steeper throughout the night, though, so 10pm might be a good time to go anyways.

I love Dave's, but I wonder if their expansion into grocery will conflict with the little convenience store on the corner there. I suppose they'll be offering different sorts of products. That corner store was where I'd always stop to buy milk or eggs or whatever on my way home from work if I had a grocery emergency. The owner is very nice and once let my roommate buy some cottage cheese on credit ("Just pay next time").

i agree that they will be selling different sorts of products...i think dave's will probably stick to the high-end grocery items. example: dave's sells butter, as does the corner store, but dave's butter is imported or handmade in vermont. the corner store carries your basic grocery store brands (land o lakes, garelick farms).
i hope so, anyway...i love them both.

Dave's is seeking suggestions for what people want them to cary. Go in and talk to them, the folks behind the counter don't bite. Christina (the manager) and Dave himself love to talk to customers, and they are actively soliciting ideas for their new space. They want to offer good food for the neighborhood at below Whole Paycheck Foods prices. Help them help us.

I sent an email

... suggesting they get some very good bread in the store when they expand. Dave responded and said they are looking into B+R breads, which IMO, rock. They do seem genuinely interested in suggestions and feedback.

Wow, that sounds great! I love Dave's, so I'm excited to see what they do with the new space.

This may seem like a silly question, but does dave's take credit cards? My boyfriend has been in there a few times to buy sauce and pasta and mentioned he hadn't seen any signs indicating either, and so makes sure he always has cash...

I checked their website and didn't see any mention, and since we're talking about them here....

They do - but $10 or up, if memory serves.

I have purchased under $10 on my check card.

Businesses can prefer but not require a minimum purchase by credit card. Requiring minimum purchases is against the terms of businesses' agreements with the credit card companies.

WHEEE!

Speaking of Dave's, has anyone ever gone to one of their pasta-making classes? Are they worth the time/cost? Given my disproportionate consumption of pasta (read: utter dependence on pasta for survival), I don't want to go through life missing some secret of making awesome pasta...

From: [identity profile] idealforcolors.livejournal.com
How much do they cost? Pasta's quite easy to make, it's just a matter of doing it enough times to figure out how you like it, so I'd be skeptical.

They're usually around $30 or so.
I agree; I'm skeptical, too, but I can't shake the feeling that maybe they know some amazing secrets that will increase my pasta deliciousness 1000-fold.

Ooh, I will have to look into that.

I also want to convince Pushp (Guru the Caterer) to do cooking lessons. Perhaps after they settle into the new digs -- maybe the larger kitchen would allow for it in-house.

does this mean they'll finally expand hours and open on sundays?!??!?

I surely hope not. I like the fact that they are open reasonable hours. The hours seem fair to their employees and it's a nice contrast to the 24hr all the time consumerism that is so rampant everywhere else.

Oh no! Surely a business should not even consider expanding their consumer base to include those who work later!

No one's anyone's asking for 24 hrs of operation, just craving a sandwich on Sundays.

I bet they could easily find employees who would be happy to work on Sunday, either within their current pool of part-timers or within the pool of people who are specifically looking for Sunday work.
