This one's kind of odd, but hopefully somebody has some ideas.

I'm a sometimes-journalist and I have to conduct a telephone interview next week. My editor is requiring a copy of the recording for the magazine's archives. Most decent telephone recording equipment is made to work on land lines, and I only have a cell phone, as does everybody I know up here.

Can anybody think of a land line in a semi-quiet place I'd be able to use for 20 minutes or so?

ETA: Thanks! You guys are great. My editor is far away so I can't use her office, and I have an office but the interview is at night and I'd rather not haul back to Quincy. I got a digital recorder today and I'll experiment with it and speakerphone, plus the freeconferencecall thing sounds awesome too. Thanks for your help!

Can your editor offer a location at the magazine's offices, or is it based out of the area? Perhaps a sister publication?

I would ask friends who work in offices, I guess.

I'm not a Skype user, but isn't there a way to record Skype phone calls? Or any other VoIP calls? Seems like that should be implemented already in this day and age.

For recording Mac Skype calls:
http://ecamm.com/mac/callrecorder
And it's made right on Highland Ave :-) Many of our customers are journalists who use Skype to conduct interviews. Done properly it sounds like the two people are in the same room together.

if you record them consenting you don't need written consent.

I've always used speakerphone + digital pocket recorder. Works pretty well.

freeconferencecall.com will give you a free conference line, and you can press a button to record the call. You can download the recording after the call. (Practice it first to make sure you know how to do it.) It works with all kinds of phones, you just need touch tone to enter your conference number.
