I read through all the tags and was able to make an appointment tomorrow morning for my kitty, but I was wondering if anyone could give me solid $$$ numbers on local vet visits (cuz I'm hoping the place I *wanted* to go will call me before I go to the other place!)

I'm going to City Cats in Arglington who quotes $60 for a visit and $42 for a stool sample- which they asked me to Provide them with, oh goody! should be fun seeing as we have Two cats (but mine seems to be the only one with costly problems). Plus I'm a bad mamacat and am not sure when she had shots last and I'm sure to get stuck with something extra!
I didn't call PSV because some of you scared me away from them, but at the same time I'm worried about funds for Xmas... I used to pay $35 for an office visit in Cincinnati!! I suppose I should just be glad I was able to get in some place at all.

Has anyone ever heard of Beech Vets? It's super close for me, off of Mass Ave but Google is being flaky on info and I see no website or phone number so that can't be good. What is up with this Union Sq place that has a Brighton website addy and pulls up a place in Watertown?! That's actually the one I'm hoping to go to, it's closer

I'm not sure what's wrong, but I think my kitty has some type of worm (small and black, hardly even seems alive) that I can't find on teh interwebz and I'm leaving town Thursday so I'm in a rush to get this figured out. we've ruled out tapeworm, anyone else got a suggestion?

Oh and for anyone else tag-searchin like I was, Huron Clinic on Beacon St had loads of Yelp reviews, but was booked for two weeks :(
Also, there's a hospital (associated to the one I'm going to) in Brookline open until 10pm during the week, good to take note of...

Well, I don't know about prices for anywhere but City Cats, and they are expensive, but they've always been really, really good with my cats. While that's not actually helpful, I can at least vouch for them being worth the extra money if you're one of those people who is insane about their cat.
And it's not exactly local, but Angell is also really good and you could probably get in rather quickly.

I can't say enough good things about Huron, and I kind of hope Dr. Ulrich expands the practice eventually. If you're not happy with any of the other places, I've found that in an emergency I can call Huron first thing in the morning and they typically have one or two time slots during the day where they see emergency cases.

Huron

union square vet is great - we were really happy there. I think they are reasonably affordable, but my kitty died a few years back so i don't remember exactly what things costed.

Union Square is in Somerville. Be warned, there is a Union Square in Brighton, but Union Square Vet is in Somerville at the junction of Bow Street and Somerville Ave.

Porter Square Vet is great - it's actually in Davis Square. They usually fit me in same day or next.

I love Porter Sq Vet too and recommend them. Dr Bujalski cared for my longtime kitty for years 'til she died of old age (kidneys) a couple years ago.

Dr. Werlin is my cats' official vet but we've only seen her once, but I've also been to two female vets there (can't remember names) and never had a bad experience. All seem knowledgeable, caring, and trustworthy.

I believe just the office visit costs $49.

Dr. Parker is the best vet I've ever used for my pets. I can't recommend him highly enough.

I also use Dr. Parker and am very happy with him. I've had two visits there with other doctors as well, and didn't have any problems with them, but Dr. Parker is who we randomly got the first time, so that's who we use when we can.

Dr. Parker at Porter Square vet is awesome. I would highly recommend him. I think the reason PSV gets hinky reviews is because some of the vets aren't great (the first one I got didn't explain to me why she was giving my roommate's cat medicine until I specifically asked. She's the turtle looking one but I don't know her name). I believe a visit there is $40? So more reasonable that the City Cats.

Both City Cats and Porter Square Vet are good but expensive. I have stopped going to Porter Square Vet, though, mostly because they have had some vet turnover in the last year or two and I am not as fond of the newer vets.

Unfortunately, good vet care is expensive and its hard to figure out what is wrong with cats most of the time. Good luck.

Though I didn't see your original post, I just wanted to comment and give City Cats a hearty endorsement. They're very good there. The docs are very attentive. The entire staff is aware that this stuff costs a lot of money and they encourage you to do what you can while still being a responsible pet parent. We recently took one our cats in for this bizarre lump we found and when my fiance got the cat in front of the vet, the lump could not be found (of course- right?) Suggesting that it's best examined while kitty's in a relaxed position (which is not the vet's), the doc offered for us to bring her back in for free if we find this lump again and are concerned.

So like I said, they're very understanding and not at all intimidating. Good luck!!

Yes! I didn't realize that the wet food is better for them either.

Yeah, they're really good about answering all your questions and explaining everything. That's why I like them. That and they don't make you feel like a jerk when you can't afford everything.

I'm glad it worked out!
