I know there are services that will take your name/address off junk mail lists, but does anyone know if there's a way of not getting the bundle of ads and coupons and whatnot that come every Thursday?

Answered, thanks! Apparently you can unsubscribe by filling out the "Have you seen me?" missing kid postcard, which also cleverly has unsubscribing information on it.

I find it *patently offensive* that the Post Office, which is, of course, a government institution, would ever advocate something so obviously wasteful and useless just for the purpose of keeping people employed. Given the carbon footprint of creating this crap and sending it around the country, I think we'd all be better off as taxpayers even if we just paid these guys to sit around and do nothing all day rather than do this. Yeesh.

I suspect this is one of those things we'll start to see a lot less of once we've got a meaningful CO2 cap-and-trade system in place.

Presumably there isn't enough of that anymore to keep the majority of postal workers employed.

I wonder how much more it would cost to employ all those people on the first class mail service trying to make that more efficient and reliable rather than having them all sending me stuff I don't want.
