My passport was issued more than 15 years ago so apparently I need a new one from scratch. What's a cheap and easy place to get passport photos taken around here? Can I just take the pics and the application to the post office?

The photography shop near Diesel does passport photos.

Any CVS will do them for (I think) around $8. You just take the pictures and application, along with ID and a birth certificate to the post office.

Something related: I didn't know this when I went, and I don't know how things worked when you got your old passport, but they take your birth certificate and mail that with the application and photos. The passport and birth certificate won't be mailed back to you in the same envelope, so don't worry when you get one and not the other.

You can have them done at the Medford post office along with the passport app. Since your passport is expired you might have to apply in person anyway (mine was expired and I applied in person, but I can't remember whether that was for my passport, or just because it was so much easier to get my daughter's if we were there in person).

Actually you can even do the entire thing yourself, including printing them on your own photo printer. You just have to make sure your pictures meet the State Department specifications (http://travel.state.gov/pdf/Photo-Quality-Requirements.pdf). If you print them on a home printer, you must make sure that there are no visible "dots." Alternatively you can bring the file to a place like Cameras, Inc. (or submit them over the Cameras, Inc. web site) and pick them up a few days later.

The CVS in Davis does pictures, but they aren't necessarily the nicest. I would go with Cameras, Inc, or there is a photo place about a block from the Post Office in Union Square (which is one that does passports)

One more recommendation for Camera's Inc. They are great.

AAA

I know AAA can do passport stuff, but the closest one is downtown. Also one in Newton, Waltham, & Burlington if you happen to work in the 'burbs.

There's also this

I can't vouch for them, but it looks simple enough to be worth a try. And consumerist.com is pretty reliable
