My passport was issued more than 15 years ago so apparently I need a new one from scratch. What's a cheap and easy place to get passport photos taken around here? Can I just take the pics and the application to the post office?

My suggestion if possible, if you're at all handy with a camera and a little editing, is to do it yourself. Get a shot against a white background, crop it to the right size, and copy 4 or 6 of them onto a single 4x6 image and have it printed for $0.25.
Obviously, this is beyond a lot of people's skill level with photo software, and/or their inclination.

The passport and birth certificate won't be mailed back to you in the same envelope, so don't worry when you get one and not the other.

I can't vouch for them, but it looks simple enough to be worth a try. And consumerist.com is pretty reliable
