Janeane Garofalo is performing at the Somerville Theatre tonight as part of the AltCom (Alternative Comedy) Festival. The 'Teabaggers' from New Bedford are coming to Davis Square to protest this, according to the Boston Herald and the Somerville Journal Blog.

Date: 2009-05-08 04:03 pm (UTC)I am confused. Did my world turn upside down when I was not looking?
In any case, I think "lol" is a perfect entry tag for this post. :)

Date: 2009-05-08 04:58 pm (UTC)FWIW, to some degree, I agree with her. A number of White Supremacy groups also have a history of tax protests and being opposed to funding the government to allow it to govern. But it is more complex then that.... Which Janeane later stated. In short, an overly simplified comment is leading to more political silliness then it deserves.

Date: 2009-05-08 07:00 pm (UTC)Anyway, it makes for some odd outbursts on their part. Unfortunately, while it's probably not winning them any converts, it's probably working very well at helping to keep their rabid followers rabid.

Date: 2009-05-08 05:25 pm (UTC)There are a few who attend these protests who really actually know the budget pretty well and have objections that, while I don't agree, are well-reasoned. Now, the people who got a $9/week cut in payroll taxes? And haven't noticed? Those are the ones you make fun of.

Date: 2009-05-08 05:37 pm (UTC)It might be more effective if I brought a few friends along and we all dressed as historic Boston landmarks. You know, the Bunker Hill monument, the Old North Church, Mayor Menino, etc.

Anywho, sorry I was working and missed the chance to catch this circus. I would have enjoying taunting the right-wing shitheads.

Date: 2009-05-08 06:00 pm (UTC)I'm considering attending this because I think lowering or eliminating federal taxes them will:
- force the federal government to reduce spending
- thus improving the long term health of our unreasonably indebted nation
- will limit the power of federal government which would prevent the govt from get involved in stupid wars and other high-cost shenanigans
- prevent govt from handing out billions to corrupt companies
- will shift more power and responsibility to the states which could tax more and spend more to their liking
Dang, until this moment I didn't realize that I'm a nut. Thanks for pointing that out. I see the error of my ways.

Date: 2009-05-08 06:12 pm (UTC)However, someone who thinks he can accomplish any of these goals by picketing a comedy show in Davis Square ... is a nut. Especially if they're driving all the way up from New Bedford to do so.
(Also, where were any of these protesters when Bush was "getting involved in stupid wars" and "handing out billions to corrupt companies" ?)

Date: 2009-05-09 12:18 pm (UTC)And thanks, so much, Obama for the 'tax cut'. That extra $12.00 I'm getting will pay for, I don't know, what? Oh, yes, maybe some of the 'hidden' taxes and fees that are slowly but surely coming down the pike.
And by the way, what is the date of the Anti-War protest which is surely being planned to protest the fact that Obama is seriously escalating a war in Afghanistan/Pakistan?
Silence.............

Date: 2009-05-09 02:59 pm (UTC)As for the Afghanistan/Pakistan war, well, I'm uneasy about it but perhaps we wouldn't be in this situation if King George II hadn't decided that using the military to avenge Daddy was a good idea. I'm not happy with what's going on out that way but I don't feel inclined to take to the streets just yet. That said, I, the Pope-like one-and-only voice of all things anti-conservative, will be happy to protest when the time is right, and so will the millions of anti-war types out there whom I command with the tips of my ball hairs.
(Besides, I wonder how many of the teabaggers decry war protesters as bored students with no idea how reality works. Oh, the delicious irony....)
Well, if unemployment reaches 15%
