Eye Care

I checked the tags and didn't see anything about Cambridge Eye Doctors.  I need my first eye exam and (most likely) first pair of glasses I didn't buy at CVS!  Cambridge Eye is running what sounds like a great deal with my insurance company.  Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) with them?
Thanks.

STAY AWAY. OH MY GAWD STAY AWAY!!

eta, I'm sorry but I had bad luck with them personally (2 months to get glasses with a simple script? come on!) and my mother got a grossly, majorly wrong set of glasses that broke right away and peeled and whatnot more than once from a different cambridge eye location... and I know at least 4 other people who have just been royally screwed by them.

Tag is 'eye care', which I just added to your post. However, I see no previous mention of this particular optometrist office.

I've been to the place in Harvard Square, and have had pretty positive experiences. The optometrist is nice, I got a complete pair of glasses for about $99 once (they're the thicker plastic, since I only wear contacts if I'm going out of the house). That said, I always buy my contacts online because CE's prices are high (like everywhere else). I first went there because they're a local business and I like supporting local businesses--I think they're larger now.

I have a friend who went to 241 Optical (http://www.yelp.com/biz/241-optical-cambridge) in Harvard Square recently, and she really loved them. Her glasses are really cute, and I think that's where I'd go if I wanted anything beyond a basic eye exam and contacts prescription.

I walked by 241 Optical recently and I loved the glasses they had in the window! I can't wait until my prescription changes (not that I want worse eyesight lol) just so I can get a pair there!

My last experience with them was years ago-at that time, they didn't suck. I've since gone to other providers because they're more convenient (at the time, Cambridge Eye was near where I lived).

I had a coupe of warranty issues-one of which was my fault, but which they fixed anyway, one not, and they dealt with it without complaint. I did not have the long waiting experience a prior commenter had (not that I doubt their experience, it just wasn't mine).

I've been buying my glasses from For Eyes in Harvard Square for 15 years and have been happy with all of my purchases and have never paid more than $100 for glasses there, including UV protection.

I try to go into other eyeglass shops from time to time, but the price just staggers me.

I go to For Eyes too (downtown near South Station) and I love them, too.

I go to Four Eyes in Newbury, and they have excellent service. They are extremely helpful.

I went a couple of months ago at their new Harvard Sq location for glasses, not exam. They were OK overall, my glasses were ready in 2 days. BUT while I was looking at frames, somebody walked in and said that they had messed up the lenses and his prescription, and he couldn't see right. He had gone to his eye doctor, who confirmed that the glasses were just wrong, ie not done per the prescription...

I got the free glasses that my insurance paid for from them (Harvard Square location) a few years ago and they were broken in half in less than two years. Plus the frames were just generally crappy, especially since they were supposed to be about $100 normally.

If you can afford it, go to Four Eyes. They are great. I've been there several times, and got a great deal each time.
