From tonight's petition signing at the Somerville Theater, a shot of Democracy in action, with a citizen (not me) petitioning the gubbmint for a redress of his grievance. And yes, I signed it too and rewarded myself with a cup of ice cream from the concession stand. Doing my part for democracy AND supporting local business.

I didn't notice the movie poster behind the petition table when I was there, but it's really amusing in juxtaposition with the caption on the photo :)

Did it get to 50 signatures yet?

We're at about 50 all things consolidated. I've got a few more people I'm meeting here at work (who are residents not near Davis) and I'm making copies and sending in originals (as those are required) either this evening or tomorrow AM. Either way they won't get them till Monday since the city hall offices are closed early on Fridays.

Would you consider hand-delivering them to City Hall -- perhaps ceremoniously, with reporters present?

It's a possibility, I'm waiting for a confirmation that the Traffic Commission is actually the "Board" referred to for submitting petitions in the document that highlights how to appeal changes. They have a

They can't keep their terminology straight if they are one in the same.(Which seems to be the case)They have a secretary who may be the one to receive the documents, but I'm waiting for a call back on that right now.

In which case you might end up delivering them to the Traffic & Parking office on Holland Street, which is a lot less photogenic than walking up the City Hall steps and handing them to the City Clerk. Keep us informed.

I'd suggest getting plenty of extra signatures. It's well-known by election campaign workers that a lot of signatures get invalidated because people aren't actually registered voters in the district, especially if you get signatures at a business instead of knocking on people's doors.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm a little short on time for this one, and don't want to wait much longer to send it in. but we do have a lot of signatures from the theatre as well.

I didn't notice the poster either last night.... In fact my BF was talking about this movie and I said I'd never heard of it.... well, I would have read of it if I was a little more observant.

I came by but nobody was there. I think I was a few minutes early after a visit to the Farmer's Market. Oops.

I actually got there a bit early (a little after 6 instead of 6:30) Sorry to have missed you!
