Hello, Davis denizens! I've recently entered my second year of a four-year training in the Rubenfeld Synergy Method, a healing modality that combines gentle touch with dialogue to encourage the integration of body, mind, emotions and spirit. As part of my training, I will be seeing several practice clients over the next two years. Being a practice client is free; should you decide to stay with me throughout my training, I will begin charging student rates in my 4th year (two years from now) and regular rates once I am certified.
A short promotional video about the Method is here.
Sessions will take place at my home, near the intersection of Broadway and Route 16, until the end of August; thereafter, in Arlington just outside the Center.
If you think you might be interested,
What does being a practice client entail?
You will spend a little under an hour with me at a time. Sessions take place fully clothed, and you may stop the session at any time if anything is uncomfortable.
While you lie face-up on a massage table, I interact with you using a combination of gentle, non-invasive touch and talk. In these simplified practice sessions, the main goal will be to heighten your awareness of your body to increase ease and relaxation. While emotions may come up and are certainly welcome during the session, we will not be delving into them during these practice sessions.
Is there a fee?
The sessions are free during the next two years. In my fourth year, I will begin charging reduced rates as a Rubenfeld intern. Agreeing to do a practice session with me puts you under no obligation to continue.
Who can be a practice client?
You must not be someone who knows me well or sees me socially. However, you can refer your friends to me by forwarding this message along, if you know someone who might be interested.
You must not have any serious or chronic physical or mental health issues: we are not yet in the point in the training where we're equipped to handle it.
You may be just about anyone else, regardless of age, gender presentation, walk of life or level of education.
What if I'm disqualified, but still very interested?
My gentle, highly capable friend and colleague Matt Ryan is also studying the Method, and needs practice clients. If you're interested in seeing him, email him.
How do I get in touch with you?
Comment here, or email me! I will contact you with further information immediately.
Thanks!

Date: 2009-06-09 03:48 pm (UTC)*raises hand* I'd love to talk more about being a practice client for
you! I've been looking for some kind of energy work for the past few
months, seeking balance, healing, and strategies for keeping my mind
and my body on the same team.
I live in Union Square in Somerville, and I'm happy to meet you wherever you
are. I'm really looking forward to hearing more about this, and to
meeting you!
I tried emailing you, but I think the message failed. You can get in touch with me at anney at alumni dot nd dot edu.

Date: 2009-06-09 04:42 pm (UTC)Some examples of the touch include cradling the head, gently moving the feet, cradling the shoulder girdle and then moving out along the arm to encourage width, and a similar move with the knee and leg to encourage lengthening.
In contrast with the massage therpist's use of touch, which generally pushes and rubs the muscles into a more relaxed state, this type of touch encourages the client's body to relax itself. In this way, RSM seeks to be a modality that facilitates self-healing by helping the body learn where it's holding tension and why. (Among other things. :) It's a bit tough to explain, but thanks for giving me the practice.)

Date: 2009-06-11 01:35 am (UTC)I'll be starting each practice client with no expectation that they will go beyond one session, but with the hope that I will see them 3 or so times between now and October (my next training intensive). Thereafter, I imagine we could continue if the client wishes, adding more elements to the work as my training progresses.
This sounds cool...

Date: 2009-06-11 01:36 am (UTC)I won't be certified to practice the Method until 2012, but it still might be worth doing.
