for a good time ...
Jun. 11th, 2009 11:28 pmHighly recommended: If you're making a large wine purchase, Ball Square Fine Wines is awesome. This month, wine is 20% off. And they'll be super nice to you.
Actually, they'll be super nice to you whether you're making a large purchase or a small one, 'cause they're great.

Downtown has regular sales (look out for their grand tastings)
Wine & Cheese Cask also has big sales periodically.

I loved Downtown Wine & Spirits when I lived closer to Davis, but after going at least once a week for over a year (that's what grad school will do to ya), it was a little disheartening when no one ever showed a hint of recognition... the people at Ball Square know us by name and are infinitely more helpful with both beer and wine.

Next time you're in NY try looking there - their import laws are laxer, so more wines make it there.
