I stopped in Porter Square Galleria yesterday and Blockbuster Video is closing their shop (lease is up).

Cantabrigia says that their last day is August 23: http://ow.ly/gcen

Entire inventory on sale. Most everything is at least 25% off, still a sizable amount of media and trinkets available.

Anyone have further information? What kind of shop would work there in its place? A clothing store would do well there, with the Gap and Burlington Coat Factory gone...

Cool! Never liked that sleezy Blockbuster!

Employees were sloppy most of the time, there was always a BO smell in the place.

Is the entire chain closing or just this store?

Just this store. Their lease is up. Though Blockbuster is doing poorly nationwide, especially with Redbox and Netflix gaining popularity, so I doubt the chain will last, honestly.

Honestly, I wouldn't be sad to see it go - even when I was a kid I knew that any place featuring "57 copies of Beethoven's 2nd in stock - Guaranteed!!" was the devil's work.

It's not one of the more frequently performed pieces -- you'd prefer the 9th?

(Seems like this location is too far from NE Conservatory for the stocking to make sense.)

On the one hand, I'm kind of puzzled you didn't get my reference to the Charles Grodin debacle (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106375/); on the other hand, I'm relieved for you.

Never heard of the movie that you just linked to. It's about a piano-playing dog?

It's a kid's movie about some kind of gross dog - it's atrocious, getting stuck watching it was absolutely the worst part of babysitting as a preteen. -_-

It's a live-action Marmaduke. Charles Grodin so deserved better.

I went to this branch a few times in recent memory, and walked out without what I wanted. I think it was just biding its time. It had a bad TV section, nothing in the way of anime, and fewer copies of the latest movies than any of the other local stores. Honestly, with how the company's online service tried to screw me, they can rot in hell.

(A 5 day turnaround normal for movies, and the subscription price was double, and then there was that time that I turned it in to their store, and it took 3 times as long for them to acknowledge that I had turned in a movie.)

I cancelled my free subscription just in time, because Blockbuster Online DO NOT WANT.

I walked by it last night. It looks looted. No way will they have enough merchandise left to stay open for another six weeks.
