Last night at 2am I was woken up by two low flying planes. I thought logan had an ordinance about planes not taking off/landing at certain times. Any idea what this was about? (Don't think it was a dream....)

I saw someone else post around that time last night about 2 helicopters in the area. Might've been police activity.

i heard it too, so it wasn't a dream - i was still up - but i have no idea why planes were flying low that late.

Actually, they will let a plane land whenever it shows up...there's not much else they can do with them.

Probably the plane my nephew was on last night. They landed quite late because of weather problems elsewhere.

I was once on a plane that arrived at Logan at about 1:15am because it left New Orleans really late because some fuckhead in the emergency exit row decided to pop open the bulkhead. At least he did it while we were on the ground- I give him that much credit.

2 and 3 am arrivals on horrible weather days aren't uncommon at all.

I think there's a couple of cargo jets that take off late-night from Logan as well- probably FedEx and UPS.

I'm still skeptical that anyone in Somerville can hear a plane landing, because they don't open the throttles as far as they do for takeoff. This must have been a takeoff or something especially weird.

This issue needs to die. My snark is running low, so I'll be forced to resort to flowcharts and kabuki.

So long as it's not bukkake, that's cool.

Give you a dollar not to see the bukkake.

50% of replies to this comment have involved bukkake. Just what the hell do you people think I'm like in real life, anyway?

We knew you were prone to exaggeration but....

Any time you are awakened or otherwise bothered by airplane noise, you should call the Massport noise line (or file a complaint online, its even easier.) Not because I expect the plane noise to stop but because it is important to document the noise level over Somerville so Massport can try to distribute the noise burden fairly. If we don't tell them there is noise they can assume that its OK to use the flight paths over Somerville more.

As for the snarks, if the noise doesn't bother you, don't complain about it. If it does bother someone, be glad they have a legitimate place to file a complaint rather than just posting it on LJ.

The ridiculousness of this is what's snarky, not those of us who are normal. I've lived here for over 30 years, only once have I ever heard planes loud enough to wake someone. Those were fighter jets back in 99 that were here for the All-Star game at Fenway. It's irritating that people move to a city close to the airport then complain about the planes. Try moving some place where you won't be trying to control everything and everybody around you. That or visit a sleep specialist. Much easier and far more responsible.

If "here" is West Somerville the increased noise from usage of recently built runway (which is the issue) might not be affecting you. It does affect many people in other parts of Somerville, and they are not newbies who just moved here and started complaining.

Here is a quick synopsis of the issue:

That even if THEY do not experience something there may be other people who do. Seems like they are stuck in one of those early egocentric Piagetian stages.

And clearly you don't live in a flight path. Those of us who bought a place that wasn't in a flight path, and suddenly now is, have every right to be upset and to try and improve the situation.

I dunno; there's a difference between airplane noise (grow up, get used to it), and two o'clock in the morning airplane noise, which I was under the impression is Clearly Not Allowed.
