Does anyone know the cause of this week's power outages? At first, i just assumed that it was the typical too-many-ACs brownout but it seems like a lot of occurrences in a short time.

Additionally, does anyone know if natrional grid/nstar have sites where they post up such information?

We listened to the chatter on the Police & Fire channels & heard someone hit a pole over in Cambridge, near Trader Joe's, and the guys were speculating that it was the cause.

My neighbors called the power company around 12:30 & got an estimate of 1pm for a return of power - which was just about on the nose.

I read somewhere that a transformer blew, and that things should be fixed by now. Not sure where the "official info" would be.

Power went out at least twice Tuesday night in the Ball Square area. (squarea?) It was annoying because you think everything is groovy when they first get the power back on, then you roll over in the middle of the night and have to set your clocks again.

Sometime in the past week or so, there was a 1-hour power outage in East Somerville due to a power line that fell to the ground in a windstorm shortly before midnight, ending after a repair crew did work on the lines in the bad weather. Then there was a multi-hour power outage the next day while crews made a longer-term repair under more favorable weather conditions.

I don't believe that either of these outages extended to Davis Square, but (a) the wind may have caused similar problems throughout Somerville. and (b) I found it interesting that a single event led to two widely separated outages.

bury the lines

We could improve the stability of our electrical grid if we buried our power lines under ground like they do in at least some if not all European countries. Then the lines and equipment should largely be protected from ice, trees, and car crashes. Plus, it would improve the aesthetics of the street scape vastly.

I had a blip of power-loss around noon, but it lasted literally seconds.
