"SOMERVILLE - Senator John F. Kerry told thousands of people gathered for a town hall meeting last night that millions of Americans will lose their jobs in the next five years if Congress does nothing to change the nation’s health care system. Kerry addressed a mostly friendly crowd of about 2,800 at Somerville High School, where the auditorium and gymnasium were packed with those interested in the proposed national health care overhaul."

Nice to see such a huge turnout and folks passionate about the issues but as expected the hard questions were not really answered, such as how is health care delivery going to be reformed and Ins/Pharm industries controlled. I would have liked to have heard a question about serious campaign finance reform, which is at the root of why we don't get the changes that many want. I was glad to see Kerry's passion on the environment.

I think somebody from the audience yelled something about that and Kerry said there is nothing about mandatory vaccination. Did anybody catch that? What was that about? I was in the gymnasium and could not see too well.

I watched on TV (the local cable-access channel), and near the end I heard someone shout a question about mercury in vaccines, and Kerry said he was opposed to mercury in vaccines--all vaccines. Could that have been what you heard?

It'll probably be on TV again. I saw it on Channel 13.

Oh, thanks, that exchange was a bit surreal.
I had not realized this was Kerry's ONLY town hall meeting in MA on the topic. There were people from all over MA! I was not sure why they picked Somerville for it. I wonder if Capuano may be trying to become Senator and Curtatone may try to take Capuano's seat after that. At least positioning. In any case, good publicity for Somerville.

I was totally shocked/amazed to see the crowds. I thought it would be just a local thing. SHS was a strange venue choice for a crowd attending Kerry's sole town meeting in MA.

During the wrap-up, someone yelled something like "what about forced vaccinations?", which is what Kerry was responding to.

And his response was something like "I/we don't support forced vaccinations." (I was in the gym too.)

I think the vaccination-mandate is one of those conspiracy-theory deals. If THE GOVERNMENT is taking over your HEALTH, who *knows* what they could do! :p

Oh, right. There was a woman from Somerville who asked 3 questions, and went on and on rambling and the last question basically was about the conspiracy to take over the health system by THEM (the oligarchs, I presume). The world out there is quite diverse, no doubt about it.
